Below are the 5 BIGGEST Mistakes that I see when people do not review and update their life insurance beneficiaries.

1. Having Minor Beneficiaries - Life Insurance companies do not pay claims to minors. Probate court will get involved or it will not pay until the minor is of legal age based on their state and country.

2. Not having a Contingent (back-up) Beneficiary - If the primary beneficiary is deceased, the claim will pay the contingent vs. the estate.

3. Deceased Beneficiaries - Whew!

4. Having Ex Spouse Beneficiaries while remarried - Forgetting to make this updates greatly impacts your family inheritance. The ex doesn't have to give a dime to your new spouse / kids if they are the named beneficiary.
