Dear Families,

156th Street School held the Annual Budget Meeting yesterday. We went over data and some ideas we have for spending Title I and TSP funds. There are many budget cuts this year due to the salary raises and the COVID relief money no longer being given to schools. As a result, the school is prioritizing personnel jobs that directly help classroom instruction and then trying to keep as many programs as possible while still buy the supplies needed to run a school. So far, we are unable to keep Ms. B, she does pull-out and push-in intervention all day, but the school would like her back if we get more funds at some point in the future. She and Ms. Bridget do amazing work with our students in intervention.

During the meeting, parents were given a link to a comprehensive needs assessment. This is like a wish list. Do not feel like you have to fill out the entire form, only fill out areas you have an idea for improving reading, writing, math, and more.

The last question is open-ended. We want parents to list the top 3-5 things they hope we can continue next year. For example, we are tentatively budgeting for robotics again because we have heard from many that it is really appreciated, but maybe that is not true and you would rather have yoga instead, or something else.

It would be great if the last question was answered in way that looked like the following so we can see what the families want the most:

Ms. B – intervention teacher
Robotics
Yoga

If you have any questions, please reach out to Mrs. Olguin at [email protected].

Please have the questionnaire complete no later than 2/21/24 by 3 pm because our next SSC meeting is on 2/22/24 at 3:35 pm.

Thank you!

Sincerely,

Melanie Olguin
