THAT’S OUR GIRL!!!!

HGMS is proud to announce that Ava Garcia has been selected as a recipient of the prestigious Kansas High School Activities Association’s Citizenship Award. This distinguished honor recognizes students who have demonstrated exceptional citizenship within their school community, making a positive impact and helping to create a better environment for all.

Garcia has proven herself to be a positive contributor across four sports: Volleyball, Wrestling, Basketball, and Soccer, which she participated in both 7th and 8th grade. Serving as a team captain, Garcia recently guided the Lady Hawks Soccer team to a Middle School Western Athletic Conference (MS-WAC) league championship. Her hard work and determination was also displayed on the hardwood this past season, where she helped the 2026 Girls Basketball team to a MS-WAC Co-Championship title. Garcia was also a member of the 2025 MS-WAC Girls Wrestling championship team, the first title in the program's history.
Known for her infectious positive attitude and unwavering encouragement of her peers, Garcia’s impact reaches far beyond athletics. She maintains a 4.0 GPA and is an active leader on campus, contributing to both Hawk Media and the HGMS Student Leadership Team.

Congratulations to Ava on her remarkable achievements. We look forward to your continued success in the future!

You go, GCHS graduates. You go 🤎🤍🤎🤍

The AVID seniors and early graduates were honored this morning during the AVID Graduate Breakfast. Each student was presented their AVID cords, as well as a college student goodie basket.

We have students going to Fort Hays State, Kansas State, several to GCCC and one with several acceptances but is undecided still.

In AVID, we stress and value a school’s culture. To put it precisely, “AVID aims to embed a culture where every student is held to high academic standards and encouraged to pursue post-secondary opportunities.”

The piece of that we feel is vital but rarely mentioned is the importance of a community that invests in and celebrates its students and families. Children who grow up in a community where they are championed by more than their parents/guardians grow up confident. Educators across America will tell anyone this: the more positive experiences with a safe community, the stronger the students.

Alta Brown Elementary’s Community Night knocks this out the park. I don’t think it’s a mystery why so many of our successful Hawks come to us from Alta Brown.

For the last four years, we have had a tradition: Outsiders Day. On this most festive of days, we have the opportunity to dress as Soc or Greaser. This year had the highest participation yet, with Clyde Roe and Elizabeth Thomason taking honors.

UPDATE (9:00 P.M.): The scene is clear; more information regarding today’s incident can be found on USD 457’s page. We continue to work with Garden City Public Schools to ensure the safety of students and staff at school.

UPDATE (5:05 P.M.): GCHS staff and students have all been safely dismissed from the rally point. Law enforcement remains on site continuing the investigation. At this time, there is no threat to the public, but please avoid the area. More information to follow.

UPDATE (4:15 P.M.): Per USD 457 Garden City Public Schools, GCHS staff and students at rally points (Nazarene Church) can leave. They are not allowed to enter the building at this time. More information to follow.

ALERT (4/21/26, 4:00 P.M.): There is currently a large police presence at Garden City High School. Please avoid the area as law enforcement completes the investigation. We will provide updates when available.
