Another exciting upgrade at MAC

Our new 16.5 cu. ft. electric kiln is here and ready to go... This brings us to a total of 4 electric kilns, 1 walk-ins Gas kiln, 1 Raku Kiln at Michigan Art Center.

We’re getting ready for the Fall Semester, and with our students creating so many amazing pieces, this additional kiln will help us keep up with firings, reduce wait times, and get everyone’s beautiful work back to them sooner

One more big step in growing and improving MAC for our pottery.

Construction Update at MAC!

Big changes are happening. Our old garage entrance is officially gone and has been replaced with a beautiful new glass double-door entrance.

What a transformation...We now have so much natural light coming into the studio, without having to open the garage door or worry about bugs coming inside.

And since many of us spend 4–6 hours at a time in the studio, it will be wonderful to actually see what’s going on outside and enjoy the daylight while we create.

Next up, we’re waiting for the awning with the MAC sign to be installed. We can’t wait to see the entrance completely finished.

One step closer to our newly renovated Michigan Art Center.

A Semester-Long Labor of Love..
We are so proud of Maritza and her amazing version of Happy the Dwarf

Maritza chose this project entirely on her own and spent almost the whole semester-11 weeks, bringing her vision to life. With no prior experience creating a sculpture this large, she took on quite a challenge.

Along the way, the sculpture collapsed a few times but she didn’t give up. She rebuilt it and kept going.
And that’s the beauty of working with clay, you learn, adjust, rebuild, and sometimes create something even better than you originally imagined.

Happy was eventually created in three separate pieces for building and firing.

A special thank you to MAC instructor Kelly Alton, who guided and supported Maritza throughout the process.

After all that patience and perseverance, Happy has found the perfect home in Maritza’s garden. She shared photos with us during the day and at night, with his lantern glowing.

From an idea, to a few collapses, to rebuilding, firing, and finally a beautiful garden sculpture...what an accomplishment
