-Still need to catch a meal with dad?
-Tired from cleaning up for last night’s storm?
-It’s Monday…enough said.

Head to Applebee’s today and mention GCHS CTE - all proceeds will support student meals for our field trips including college campus cafeteria experiences (which is a huge opportunity for our kids!)

Thank you for the support GC!

Back-to-back professional opportunities.

Teaching Kansas teachers 📝

Seven high school STEM educators recently completed our Professional Development Workshop, which equipped them with cancer-focused biology lesson plans. The unit, Intro to Cancer: Leukemia & Hina’s Story, tells the story of an 11-year-old girl diagnosed with Acute Lymphocytic Leukemia. Students learn about the cell cycle, blood cell differentiation, the immune system and how cancer can disrupt these processes.

These teachers also toured research labs and met with science professionals who will be available to visit their classrooms.

This year’s workshop cohort represents the following high schools: Blue Springs, Wyandotte, Sumner Academy, F.L. Schlagle, Turner, Salina South and Garden City.

…it may officially be summer break but our Garden City High School teachers still continue to pay it forward and show their commitment and passion to their academic & professional roots! 🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻

Garden City Community College welcomed educators, industry partners, and community leaders from across the region for the 2026 STEM for All Teacher Summit.

GCHS was well-represented by two of our best educators as presenters- Mark Shera Cruz and Bethsaida Arguello. They were incredible! Super inspiring! What an amazing event!

Incredible experiences were afforded this semester in the CTE Pathways of Teaching/Training and Early Childhood Development at Garden City High School --- all made possible because of local educators with the passion, commitment, and grace to welcome the next generation of teachers into their worlds --- the very definition of paying-it-forward.

Thank you to Mr. Japheth Jaradal Quilicol - the thoughtful, tremendous care you have with your students so that they may learn all aspects of working with children is inspiring!

From family fun nights - to building tours - to student teaching experiences - puppet readings - board game play - there was over 50 hours given back to our Buffs and their future!

USD 457 Garden City Public Schools:

And to administrators Mr. DeLoach & Mr. Reich for their GCHS-site visits to inform, relate, and collaborate in-person with our students.

Community partners stepped up too! Thank you so much to Faithe Haeck and crew at Turning Point Academy for welcoming our students to learn and grow with our little ones!

'Twas the night before Garden City High School Graduation, when all through the halls
Not a creature was stirring, not even from Mr. Moll’s;
The cords and stoles were hung on the hangers with care;
In hopes that Mr. Nelson’s cameras would catch all the flair;
The graduates were nestled all snug in their beds;
While visions of walking the stage played in their heads;
And teachers with their feelings, and coaches in their thoughts;
Had just settled their brains on what else still needed taught;

When out in the cafeteria there arose such a clatter,
Mr. Meng sprang from his chair to see what was the matter.
Away down the Career Center hall he flew like a flash,
Threw open the doors and called the principals to dash;
The sunshine through The Point casting a bright, effervescent glow
Gave a compliment to the delicious smells from Chef Maldonado’s;
When what to Mr. Meng’s proud eyes did appear,
But a herd of buffaloes, with all 400+ near;

And their families whistled, and shouted, and Mrs. Meng & Mrs. Vargas called them by name:
"Now, Eleazer! now, Anabelle! now Isabelle and Lauren!
On, Anette! on, David! on, Alexander and Mason!
To the top of the ladder! to the top of the wall!
Now dream away! dream away! go for it all!"

But we heard them exclaim, ere they moved their tassels from the right—
“Happy Graduation to all, and to all a good night!”
