$100 million in child care relief just passed the Senate and is headed to the governor for his signature! The legislature listened to all of us & prioritized addressing the child care crisis this week. The passage of House Bills 395, 400, and 369 is a huge win and something each all of us should be proud of. We showed the power of advocacy through strategic, respectful actions. Congratulations everyone!

Many child care centers to close on Monday to protest Idaho legislature

Tatertots Families,
Come join us at our school at 7am to make posters & get ready to caravan down to the capital.
We’re all in this together, it’s time to show how big “our village” (it takes a village) is to our legislators. Our children should ALWAYS come 1st & that starts by funding the people that love and Co-Parent with your Family. Let’s be the voice for our children and be louder than any toddler/ preschool class on those capital steps, Monday Morning 🌞🐚

Dear Families,
At Tatertots Academy our number one mission has always been to CoParent and to always do what is best for our families. We would like for you to help us take action so we can get the necessary funding to persevere during this time. We want to be here always for you and hope at this time of uncertainty you will remain here for us, helping us raise our voice along with other quality Child
Care around us. We’re praised as being essential to the community and we All ( Child Care throughout the state) need these funds to continue to be that. We All are asking all of our families to take a moment to write a quick letter urging Senators Crappo and Risch to pass the “Child Care is Essential Act” and the “Child Care Economic Recovery Act”.
This is the survey results that our Senators read and what drives their vote. We only had 24 centers of over 1000 centers respond. We can not afford to have Idaho representatives vote no due to lack of advocating.
IDAHO
24 individuals responded from child care centers and family child care homes. Of these:
› 36% are in child care programs where they are certain they will close permanently without
additional public assistance.
› 20% of those working in family child care programs remain closed
› While all centers indicate they are open, 91% are serving fewer children now than they were prior to the pandemic. Overall enrollment is down by 52%.
› 77% of programs are paying more for cleaning supplies and 59% are paying more for personal protective equipment.
› Respondents were asked what supports their program received to help it survive. 11 programs said they received the Paycheck Protection Program, including 6 large child care programs and 5 small child care programs; of these, two are family child care homes and 4 are minority-owned businesses.
› 66% of programs have engaged in furlough, pay cuts, or layoffs.
› Assuming they are operating at 80% of capacity or less, 56% of programs responding to the survey expect to close within six months, if they don’t receive additional public support.
So please,
1. Write a letter or go directly to the Senators website and fill out the email form stating that Idaho
child care needs funds provided from the above mentioned acts and demand a yes vote
2. Go to the Idahoaeyc website for email addresses under Advocacy tab

Michelle Edmonds interviews Beth Oppenheimer with the Idaho Association for the Education of Young Children about what child care will look like in the "new normal" and what you need to know as a parent during the staged reopening. Ask your questions below!

Hi! My name is Kaleb. I am 5 years old and go to Preschool at Tatertots Academy. My mom is the Director here! Today I had fun. Today I Played outside. Today it rained. Today was wet. Today my teacher and friends talked about our planet. I love earth. I love rainbows. I love outside. Being outside is good for you. Did you know you can’t get sick by playing outside? The weather doesn’t make germs! The weather makes the sun shine and the wind blow and sometimes water rains- like today! Playing outside is healthy and I learn a lot! Kids like me need to play outside every day. If I don’t get to play outside, I get antsy and sometimes it makes me do things I don’t mean to. My mom says its “impulse” but I don’t fully understand what that means yet. I need outside play to move my body and explore in a way I can’t in my classroom. That’s why I love my school. We go outside everyday- Rainy, sunny, snowy or anything else I still get to have my adventures outside! When the weather is happy (sunny) I can play tic tac toe with my friends with rocks we’ve painted, ride our tricycles, explore with sand/sensory or play sports like basketball. When it’s wet outside like today, the Rain doesn’t stop me from having fun! I can still play any activity I feel my body needs. I can fill a bucket up with water and poor it out- My teacher calls it something like “cause and affect” but I can also jump in puddles! One time we even made MONSTER PUDDLES! Just remember to wear the right clothes- you don’t want to be jumping in puddles with sandals on because then your feet will get wet & cold. My mommy says, “save nice clothes for special days” because we need the right PLAY clothes to get messy, silly and to expand our minds! I hope other kids from 1 to 100 get to have as much fun by learning outside like I do. And if they don’t, I hope their mommies and daddies or even their school think about letting them do so. It definitely helps me be able to listen and to be a more helpful friend.

❤️🐇🐣❤️

Hoppy Easter! 🐣 🐰
We wanted to make this year special during these unprecedented times so during this time at Tatertots Academy we had zoom sessions where the Easter Bunny 🐇was able to be seen with the children here at school and also the children at home. However, we didn’t want to just stop there. The owners and teachers have been sensitive thinking about how this time in our world is different than anything we’ve ever experience and this Holiday is affected as well. Everyone has their own traditions and this year you may not have been able to go to church, family gathering, or that big Easter Egg Hunt 🥚 you might’ve been looking forward to & we decided to go the extra mile to still bring the Magic of Easter to your family with everyone’s approval. Miss Haley (Director) and teachers Bailey (& secret teacher who played as the “Easter Bunny”) 🐇 went door to door to all of Tatertots Academy’s families to leave a couple Easter Eggs 🥚 for every family on their lawn or apartment door step. We had a lot of fun seeing our kids through windows, including siblings that were just born. 👶🏼💕 We felt in those moments even more connected with our Tatertots Families, even with being 6 feet away. We hope you and your family enjoyed our shenanigans as much as we did. Here is a collage of photos we gathered along our way 🤗💕

Enjoy!
