I currently owe our public library $21.70. 🙈
Some books were overdue. Some got lost in our house. And some… by the time we were finally ready to part with them, paying for the book made more sense than paying the late fees.
Honestly, that’s one of the reasons I created Kind Corner Exchange.
If your family falls in love with a book, keep it. If you’re ready for something new, send it back and exchange it.
No deadlines. No guilt. Just books that fit real family life.
(But if you’re done with a Kind Corner book, I’d still love to share it with another family. 💛)

Seventh Street was full of kids carrying books and my heart is full! 💜 thanks to everyone who stopped by and let me talk about my passion and excitement for Kind Corner! And thanks, as always, to Garden City Chamber for a great event!

When we push children toward the books we think they should be reading, we risk losing something far more important: their desire to read at all.
I know because it happened to me.
Once I’d been told I was “too smart” for the books I loved, I became embarrassed to be seen reading them. I wanted to read what my teacher believed I was capable of reading—and do it perfectly.
But I wasn’t interested in Black Beauty.
So I stopped reading.
This is something I wish more parents knew: a child’s reading ability and a child’s reading interest are not the same thing.
A strong reader can still benefit from funny books, illustrated books, familiar series, graphic novels, and books adults may think are “too easy” (I’m looking at you, Dog Man!).
Those books build fluency, confidence, reading stamina, vocabulary, and—critically—a positive identity as a reader.
Challenge has a place. But not every book needs to be a challenge.
That experience shaped the literacy educator I became and why I created Kind Corner Literacy: to help children find books they genuinely want to read, and to help parents understand why that matters.
Because the goal was never just to raise children who can read harder books. It’s to raise children who still want to read.

It was never about selling books. It’s about understanding the reader first—and finding what might finally pull them in. 🤍But don’t take my word for it- check out what families are saying about their Kind Corner Book Bundles at www.kindcornerliteracy.com/testimonials (link in bio)
