Happy Monday!! Here is another ✨spotlight✨ from our resident zooplankton expert and cat enthusiast:
Bailey Lin is a Masters student in Marine Biology. She is originally from Savannah, GA, and she earned her BS in Biology from Georgia Tech in December of 2021. She accidentally fell into the world of zooplankton during her time at GT and liked it so much that she decided to stay. At TAMUG, she works with Dr. Hui Liu, and her research primarily focuses on the relationship between zooplankton community abundance, density, and diversity and environmental parameters in Galveston Bay. After she graduates, she hopes to get a PhD with a focus on biological oceanography. Bailey also loves her old lady cat, Maddie, and wishes that more people would watch the early 2000s sci-fi cult classic, Farscape.

It’s almost the weekend! Here’s a ✨Grad Student Spotlight✨for your Friday:
Madelyn is a second year Marine Biology PhD student from Buffalo, NY. She has BAs in Biology and French from SUNY Geneseo, and got her start in MARB field work by serendipitously stumbling upon a hatchling release with her Mom and grandpa on vacation, and subsequently interning there the next summer (shoutout Mote!). While interning, Madelyn wondered what was becoming of the data she was collecting, and decided to pursue research. This prompted her to pursue her MS in Freshwater and Marine Ecology at Queen Mary, University of London. Currently, Madelyn does movement ecology research using satellite and acoustic telemetry data. After TAMUG, she hopes to stay in academia. In her spare time, you can usually find Madelyn talking to family, walking on the beach, keeping the Duo Lingo notifications at bay, quilting, or at a coffee shop.
