What a historic victory tonight! Thank you to the PAC committee that worked so hard on getting the job done. Thank you to the Galveston ISD Board of Trustees and Dr. Jerry Gibson for picking up that can and having the courage to put together such a comprehensive bond package! And, especially to the voters of Galveston who got this done for the kids!

Thank you Dr. Hay for setting the record straight!

Columnist's 'facts' on Galveston school bond were all wrong I don’t know if Robert Nuzum ("Vote against Galveston ISD's bond proposals," The Daily News, May 5) doesn’t understand school property taxes or if he distorted the information on purpose

In a recent newspaper article, according to Jennifer Mishory, chief of staff of career, technical and adult education at the U.S. Department of Education, about 30 million jobs in the country don’t require a bachelor’s degree and pay median earnings of $55,000 or more. She adds that students enrolled in career and technical education tend to graduate, enroll in college and have higher rates of employment and earnings than those who don’t.

Part of the proposed new high school is upgrading the CTE courses and its landscape on campus. A sneak preview by District officials include having students in an automotive program working in a setting on campus that mirrors a traditional car repair shop; a hospitality program with an industry standard kitchen that trains professional chefs; future doctors and nurses working in a medical setting on campus and upgrades in all other CTE pathways.

Other nearby districts already have these state of the art programs in place as a result of upgrades to their high schools. It’s time for Galveston to do the same!
