Connect at UTMB works to uplift children at Galveston Independent School District schools by offering tutoring services and exposing them to STEAM (science, technology, engineering, mathematics, and art) topics. Below is a photo of current Fellow Salman Farooqui after distributing 200 backpacks and school supplies donated from ICNA Relief to help support GISD students for the academic year.

Congratulations to our tutors and mentors of the semester π₯³ These volunteers were chosen by the Site Coordinators for their enthusiasm and dedication! We wrapped up our Fall 2022 semester with a pizza and letter writing party π A huge shout-out to the students, UTMB volunteers, site coordinators, and GISD for helping make this program possible! This hands-on experiment managed to take our breath away! Using plastic bottles, balloons, straws, and tape, students created lung models and learned how the organ functions in our bodies! π«

A little food coloring and some Alka-seltzer tablets can go a long way! This past week, our mentors helped students explore properties such as density and polarity by making DIY lava lamps and rainbow milk π Check out these colorful creations from Austin Middle School below!
