🧠 Protect Your Brain: Helmet & Head Injury Safety

Whether you’re riding a bike, motorcycle, or playing a contact sport, the right helmet can make a BIG difference when it comes to protecting your brain.

🚲 Bicycle helmets can:
• Reduce serious head injuries by 60%
• Reduce traumatic brain injuries by 53%
• Reduce the risk of cyclists being killed or seriously injured by 34%

⛑️ Know when to replace your helmet:
The CPSC recommends considering replacement of bicycle helmets within 5–10 years of purchase, depending on manufacturer guidance and the helmet’s condition.

Most bicycle helmets are designed for one severe impact. The protective foam crushes to absorb energy during a crash, so the helmet should be replaced after a significant impact—even if you can’t see damage.

Some sports helmets, including certain football and hockey helmets, are designed to withstand multiple moderate impacts, but they should still be inspected and may need replacement after a severe impact or if you notice cracks, dents, or other damage.

💙 Your brain is worth protecting. Choose the right helmet for your activity, make sure it fits properly, and replace it when needed.

✨ Learning, Connecting & Making an Impact at NASHIA! ✨🧠

What a great week of learning, connecting, and sharing our passion for brain injury rehabilitation! 🙌

Faydra Nabers-Allen, Tammy Perry, Alexandra Reyes, and Dr. Ana Durand-Sanchez recently represented Moody Neuro Rehabilitation at the NASHIA Conference, connecting with professionals and leaders from across the country who are committed to making a difference in the lives of individuals impacted by brain injury.

The National Association of State Head Injury Administrators (NASHIA) plays an important role in bringing together organizations, professionals, and advocates to strengthen brain injury services, share valuable resources, and improve outcomes nationwide.

We’re proud of our partnership with NASHIA and grateful for opportunities like this to build relationships, exchange ideas, and bring new knowledge back to our Moody Neuro team and the individuals we serve. 💙

Congratulations to Shelby, our Employee of the Month!

Shelby consistently goes above and beyond to ensure our patients receive thoughtful, respectful, and personalized care. She takes the time to understand each patient’s interests, needs, and family support while offering encouragement that makes therapy sessions more meaningful. Her professionalism, attention to detail, and ability to anticipate the needs of therapists help even the most complex sessions run smoothly. Shelby is always willing to lend a hand, supports collaboration across departments, and helps maintain an organized and efficient therapy environment. She has made a lasting impact on our patients and team, and we are excited to see her begin COTA school in August—although her enthusiasm and positive presence in the gym will be greatly missed. Congratulations, Shelby, on this well-deserved recognition!

🎓 Celebrating Johnny’s Moody Neuro Graduation!

When Johnny arrived at Moody Neuro, navigating the world after a traumatic brain injury brought significant challenges—especially vision deficits that made mobility unfamiliar and, at times, frightening. Working alongside his therapy team, Johnny faced those fears head-on. Through physical therapy and counseling, he developed strategies to manage anxiety, built trust in himself and others, and grew increasingly confident navigating new environments. Even when a task scared him, Johnny continued to say yes and try.

Throughout his rehabilitation, Johnny made meaningful strides in obstacle negotiation, walking with reduced support, using hearing cues to navigate, and tackling challenging activities like floor transfers—something that would have felt overwhelming when he first arrived. But Johnny’s progress went far beyond physical skills. His greatest breakthrough was the confidence he gained in his own abilities. With his wife, Mary, and his family cheering him on, Johnny showed incredible courage, resilience, and determination through every difficult moment.

Johnny’s positive energy and kindness also left a lasting impression on fellow patients and the Moody team. He reminded us that courage isn’t the absence of fear—it’s choosing to move forward despite it. Johnny, never stop facing your fears, believing in yourself, and celebrating every meaningful stride. We are incredibly proud of you and honored to have been part of your journey. Congratulations, Moody graduate! 💙🎓

Our Recreational Therapy team recently took a group of patients to Barnes & Noble for a relaxing day of browsing books, exploring new interests, and enjoying time together outside of therapy. These outings provide more than just a change of scenery—they help build confidence, encourage social interaction, promote independence, and reconnect patients with everyday experiences that are an important part of life after brain injury.

At Moody Neuro, recovery happens both inside and outside the therapy gym. Every community outing is another step toward greater independence and a reminder that healing is about returning to the moments that matter most. 💙
