What happens behind the scenes before your child walks through our doors?
A LOT. 😂💛
Lesson planning. Preparing activities. Organizing materials. Sanitizing classrooms. Setting up learning centers.
But behind the scenes at GPC, we're doing more than simply preparing for the day.
We're thinking about how children learn.
We're asking questions like:
✨ How can we make this meaningful?
🧠 How can we help children remember what they're learning?
🔎 How can we connect learning to something they are already exploring?
💛 How can we turn everyday moments into meaningful learning opportunities?
Because a great day—and meaningful learning—doesn't happen by accident.
Here's one example of why we teach the way that we do.
You may notice that at GPC, we don't automatically start our weekly letters with A, then B, then C...
For years, early preschool, preschool, and Pre-K classrooms often followed the same pattern:
Week 1: A
Week 2: B
Week 3: C...
It's familiar. It's easy to organize.
But young children don't learn simply because the alphabet is presented in alphabetical order.
At Gallatin Premier Childcare, we believe learning should have meaning and connection.
If our children are exploring Space, we might focus on M for Moon. 🌙
If we're learning about Gardens, we might explore S for Seed. 🌱
If our theme is Oceans, suddenly O has a whole world of meaning. 🐙🌊
Now, the letter isn't just an isolated symbol on a worksheet.
Children are hearing it, saying it, seeing it, finding it in words, connecting it to activities, and experiencing it throughout their week.
That's the difference between simply introducing a letter and creating opportunities for children to actually understand and remember it.
The traditional “A-to-Z, one letter every week” approach may be easy to follow—but we know children learn best when concepts are connected, meaningful, hands-on, and relevant to what they are already exploring.
So behind the scenes, our teachers aren't just asking:
“What letter comes next?”
They're asking:
“How can I make this letter mean something to my children?” ❤️
That is intentional teaching.
That is learning with purpose.
And that's just one example of what happens behind the scenes at GPC. 💛
