The men's golf team ranks among the most successful programs in the history of Prairie Fire athletics. Well-coached and with access to unparalleled facilities, Knox has been, without question, the dominant golf program in the Midwest Conference. The Prairie Fire men's golf team has won several conference titles in the past two decades and has 29 overall, the most in the conference's history. The m

en's team has achieved a record unparalleled in the history of athletics at Knox, winning 20 conference championships since 1982. Also since 1982, a Knox golfer has secured the conference's individual crown an impressive 16 times. Dave Gardner won individual medalist honors at the conference meet three times (1983-85), while Jim Ramsey (1987-88), Andy Gilbert (1998, 2000), and Ryan Meier (2004-05) have each won two individual titles. James Fenner '14 and Bobby Stuebi '12 are the most recent Prairie Fire men's golfers to win the MWC individual championship. Prior to that Knox won the 2008 conference team title and the Prairie Fire's David Marquardt claimed the individual league crown. Marquardt placed 14th at the 2008 NCAA National Tournament to earn second team All-American honors, becoming the fifth player to achieve that distinction in the history of the program. The Midwest Conference offers an automatic qualifier to the NCAA National Tournament, which gives Knox golfers an opportunity to compete at the highest level of Division III competition. The Prairie Fire qualified for the 2008 NCAA Division III Men's Golf Championship. Knox golf teams practice and compete at Soangetaha Country Club, a private 18-hole course that is one of the finest in Illinois and has hosted both state and national tournaments in past years. When the team is not on Soangetaha's rolling fairways, golfers can use the large indoor nylon-net driving cages in Knox's T. Fleming Fieldhouse to keep their swing fine-tuned. Prairie Fire golfers have gone on to a wide variety of successful careers. They include Brian Skaret '98 (Economics, Music), an attorney with the Department of Justice. William Baker '92 (International Relations) is the head golf professional at Firefox Resort & Golf Club in West End, North Carolina. Lowell Dixon '65 (Economics and Business Administration) is the vice president of McDonald's. Kyle Vantrease '73 (Economics, Mathematics) is the chief judge of the Second Judicial Circuit of Illinois.

I would like to congratulate Harry, Patrick and Brendan as they graduate Knox College tomorrow. I can't thank you all enough for the last 4 years of dedication. I hope you all had fun and remember that you are always family!! Congratulations on the future and thanks for the memories as you all will be missed!!

The Blueboy Invitational Hosted by Illinois College has came to a conclusion with the Prairie Fire finishing in 5th place in another stacked tournament. We started off on a great note but we had a few players hit a cold spell during the middle of their round. We still put up a respectful score and we will look to ride this momentum into the conference championship next week.

Brendan Wise paced the purple and gold with a two day total of 2 under par (69-73) earning him a top 5 finish. Freshman, Gabe Newman tied Wise on the day with a 73. We appreciate your support as we get geared up for the SLIAC Championship.

Round 1 is in the books and your Prairie Fire posted a 6 over par 294. We currently sit in a tie for 5th place in a very talented field. Brendan Wise led the purple and gold with his career best 69 (-3) with fellow Senior, Patrick Mattar battling back after a rough start to finish the day at even par. Jack Wilkie led the gold team with a one over par 73.

Round 2 begins at 9am tomorrow. I am hopeful we can tighten a few things up and shoot something sub 290 and see where that puts us. This is the final Invitational of the Spring season with only the SLIAC Championship left next week. Please help me wish the team a day filled with fairways and birdies as a top 3 finish would be very impressive!

Why D3? It's an easy answer for me as it's the truest form of the sport there is. Young adults that are playing the game for the love of it while also being a student! They pick a college that is going to provide them an opportunity to be a star in the classroom and the field of play without athletic scholarships being dangled over their heads. And we are off....Round 1 of the Illinois Wesleyan Spring Invitational. The tournament is being played on two different course here in Bloomington. Today we are playing The Weibring Golf Club and tomorrow we will play at Ironwood Golf Course.
