Bob thrived in sports with the help of Hall of Fame G-A coaches of his era, all of whom he greatly admired for the rest of his life. He was the state runner-up for tennis in 1969 & 1970 and state champion in 1971 & 1972. His time in the 880-yard run set a school record and after 52 years is the longest standing record for G-A. After graduating from high school, he went on to attend and play tennis at Ball State University. His love for tennis became his career as a Tennis Pro in the greater Kalamazoo area for over 30 years. Bob's calm demeanor as a coach and as an athlete was one of his greatest gifts. His natural coaching ability allowed him to positively influence countless young athletes in the area, including his children. Erica was a 1998 graduate of Galesburg Augusta High School and was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2015. She earned 9 varsity letters, all KVA 1st Team Basketball 1997, Leading scorer with 11.6 P.P.G, Team Captain & Offensive Player of the year 1997, all KVA 1st Team Softball 1998, led G-A in Batting Average 1998, all KVA Tennis 1994-95-96-97, Class "C-D" Regional Singles Champion 1994-95-96, Class "C-D" State Semi-Finalist 1995, Class "C-D" All State 1995-96-97, Glen Oaks C.C. Tennis MVP 1998 & 1999, Undefeated in Singles Competition 1998, M.C.C.A.A Regional Singles Champion 1998, M.C.C.A.A. Regional Doubles Champion 1999, M.C.C.A.A. All-State Tennis Team 1998 & 1999. Erica received a scholarship to Glen Oaks Community College where she played tennis and basketball. She went on to receive her bachelor's degree from Murray State University, Murray, KY.
