Tonight I had the opportunity to work with local Girl Scout Troop 33077 on their Simple Meals badge. We were so busy cooking our oatmeal breakfast parfait, Greek chicken pita with crispy carrot fries, and black bean brownies, that I didn’t take too many pictures. I was able to capture this great shot of some classic teamwork though 🤩

Happy St. Patrick's Day, families! 🍀🌈🎉 Today is a day to celebrate Irish culture and traditions with loved ones and of course enjoy all the delicious foods too! One of my favorite fun and festive activities is to make our own homemade shamrock shakes using natural ingredients like spinach, fresh mint, and greek yogurt. Let's make this St. Patty's Day a memorable one for our families, full of health and happiness!

We had a great afternoon enjoying the Thursday farmers market at Casey Community Center!

There were bushels of fresh fruits and vegetables (we took home some delicious cherries 🍒 and tomatoes 🍅), food vendors with 🥧 🍕🍦 , kid entrepreneurs, activities for the littles including a scavenger hunt and book reading and even live music.

Earlier this week, Sous Chef and I stayed cozy inside ❄️ and completed a puzzle that she got for Christmas 🎄

It was part of a set from Target and was a fun, new way to get some fruit and veggie exposure in when we couldn’t venture out to the farmer’s market or supermarket.

We reviewed the colors of the rainbow and tried to name as many produce items as we could see. And we even spotted a little friend 🐞and some sweet treats too 🍰🍭🍦

So much time is spent in my kitchen teaching my little one how to be comfortable with new ingredients and learning how to prepare them.

Sometimes chaos ensues and messes are made but that’s all part of a young chef’s learning process. 🤓

For this meal we worked on fine motor skills by tearing kale, chopping sweet potatoes and mixing in the pan before roasting.

I didn’t feel like dirtying another dish to mix everything up so my hands became one with the pan 👩🏻‍🍳😁🤷🏻‍♀️

It’s 🍿Day with the campers at Lake Marion Community Center in Montgomery Village.

We learned all about whole grains, did a little science and sensory exploration with the air popper and made two fun recipes. Of course we tasted delicious flavors combinations too.

This is one of my favorite parts of being mobile. I get to interact with the community and incorporate cooking lessons into regular camp and school days without running a full camp myself😁

It's one of my favorite themed days of the year! 😁 Today is National Eat Your Vegetables Day 🍅🥦🥒🌶🥕

I love a good reason to get more veggies into our meals and today is no exception.

Here are a few tips to help get kids on board with a new vegetable they are still learning to like:

1. Let them explore the veggie with all their senses. How does it smell? What's the texture like? 👃👀👆🏻
2. Have them incorporate the veggie in a new recipe of their choosing 📝
3. Use a new vegetable in a variety of ways they might like. Serve cut up veggies with their favorite dip. If they aren't on board with the raw texture, try roasting to bring out the sweetness and soften it up a bit.
