☀️ School may be out (on Thursday), but summer nutrition is in full swing!

Another food program for students this summer— Maryland SUN Bucks is back for Summer 2026, providing eligible children with $40 per month in June, July, and August—a total of $120 per child to help families purchase groceries throughout the summer.

SUN Bucks works hand in hand with our FREE Summer Meals Program, giving families even more ways to keep children nourished while school is out. 🍎🥪

Check your mail for an eligibility letter, and if you think your child may qualify but haven’t received one, scan the QR code on the flyer to learn more about eligibility and the application process.

June 4th commemorates 80 years of school meals! 🥳 Signed in 1946 by President Truman, the National School Lunch Act was a landmark investment in child nutrition and success. For eight decades, the National School Lunch Program has helped ensure millions of students have access to nutritious meals that fuel learning, growth, and well-being. A special shoutout to the dedicated school nutrition professionals across MCPS, whose daily commitment helps make this mission a reality for our students and families.

Our tasting with the SMOB Advisory Council last night at WJ was a mix of emotions— excitement for what’s to come, proud of where we are (and proud of some pretty awesome middle schoolers putting a report together on DFNS balancing rising food costs), and bittersweet as it would be the last event with this year. Student leaders tried a new concept by Chef Rob and gave valuable insight to bolstering student satisfaction. Hats off to Anuva for the wonderful event + looking forward to working with .it next year!

This morning, we gathered to host a special breakfast for our School Nutrition Salute recipients. They represent the very best of us, and it is a privilege to honor them with these tokens of appreciation. Please join me in a huge round of applause for our honorees!

They don’t just provide a meal; they provide the comfort and nourishment our students need to succeed. Thank you for your hard work, your tired feet, and your kind hearts.

Happy , MCPS! That’s a wrap, February! We started this month with snow and emergency feeding sites, followed by a successful Taste of MCPS where we hosted over 150 students across 10 schools, and ended the month with our new, local + sustainable Chesapeake Blue Catfish for all students. Can’t wait to see what March has in store (hint: it’s National School Breakfast Week beginning Monday!).
