This website has good info and I’ve recently gotten questions about how to get more testing when schools have not tested for 5+ years. Colleges that I’ve worked with usually want documentation to be current within 0-4 years to be approved for accommodations as an entering freshman.

SMART IEPs: A Tactics and Strategy Session
with Pete and Pam Wright
"As an LDA President, I coach parents about how to use present levels of academic and functional performance to write goals for their child's IEPs.
"Some schools resist. They want to use subjective teacher observations' instead of objective information from tests. Does it matter if the IEP is based on objective measurable data?
SMART IEPs: A Tactics and Strategy Session teaches you to ...
clarify present levels of academic achievement and functional performance;
write IEP goals that are SMART -- specific, measurable, active, realistic, and time-limited;
identify appropriate accommodations and modifications;
work with educational evaluators, consultants, advocates, and tutors; and
resolve disputes with the school without starting WW III.

Do You Have Questions about IEPs?
Check out the IEP Pop-up Tool
It's not unusual for parents, teachers and other school staff to experience periods of confusion during IEP meetings. This often happens when a team member makes an authoritative statement that you believe is incorrect. Perhaps you asked:
"Shouldn't my child's IEP include all the services he needs?"
OR
"How will I know if my child is making progress?"
OR
"My child is mainstreamed in regular ed classes. How can we know if the
accommodations in his IEP are being implemented?"
The IEP Pop-Up Tool answers these questions and many more. Each answer is backed up by the federal law or regulation that supports (or doesn't support) your position.

How does the IEP Pop-Up Tool work?
The IEP Pop-Up Tool is divided into twelve sections or questions. Each time you click a question, you'll go to a new page that has that question, the answer AND the federal law and/or regulation that supports the answer - and more helpful resources.
The IEP Pop-Up Tool answers questions like these:
Where does the IEP team get information for the Present Levels?
What is a PLAAFP?
How can I ensure the IEP will meet my child’s needs?
My child has behavior problems. How do you make behavior goals measurable?
Should my child's IEP include all the services he needs?
My school says the IEP is based on what is available. Is this right?
What are related services in the IEP?
Do all children with disabilities have a right to transportation as a related service?
What about extracurricular activities in the IEP?
How will I know if my child is making progress?
My child is mainstreamed in regular ed classes. How can we ensure that he has accommodations that meet his needs?
Can we include methodology in the IEP?
If you are a parent, teacher, service provider or other school staff, you need accurate, reliable answers to questions about IEPs.
Take the IEP Pop-Up Tool for a spin at the next IEP meeting. See if it works for you.

I used to have a workbook for each of my MI/MO students with everythiing from letters to trace, to tracing sentences, to free writing depending on their level and they would start each day with 5-10 minutes in their workbook. Some had to use fat pencils or warm up with some fine motor skills but all were able to 'do' cursive and sign their names by the end of the year.
