What does it look like to study music education on a global stage?

For students in the University of Florida’s online Master of Music in Music Education program, it means traveling to the Kenya Music Festival, one of East Africa’s most significant arts events, and stepping into the experience as active participants.

Through UF’s long-standing partnership in Kenya, students have served as piano accompanists, joined adjudicators at the judges’ table, participated in clinics, and presented scholarly work. It’s a powerful example of experiential learning that goes beyond the classroom and connects students through music, culture, and collaboration.

As student Anthony Kaburu shared, attending the festival with UF offered a rare opportunity to build community, represent the program, and celebrate diverse musical cultures together.
