Learn professional insider tips on public records requests from the nation’s leading document-driven journalist, Jason Leopold of Bloomberg News. Leopold is this year’s winner of the Joseph L. Brechner Freedom of Information Award, which has honored excellence in document-based reporting for 40 years. Leopold has sued the federal government for records more than any other individual (last year he filed 17 FOIA lawsuits), and is so prolific, one government official labeled him the “FOIA Terrorist.” His work has led to numerous international investigative reporting awards and induction into the national FOIA Hall of Fame. He writes a weekly email newsletter called FOIA Files and produces a new documentary called Disclosure. And he’s pretty cool.
