Studio Percussion Music and Dance Center

Studio Percussion Music and Dance Center Making the arts available to everyone. ENCOURAGE. We believe that the arts can be used to build self-esteem and confidence. INSPIRE. MOTIVATE. MEANING. SIGNIFICANCE.

We are committed to challenging our students in healthy ways and encouraging them to discover their self-worth. If you can encourage a student, you will also be able to inspire the student. We take great pride in teaching music but it's just a tool to us. We believe that it takes inspiration to motivate people. Our students are naturally motivated towards excellence in our program. We want to moti

vate students towards excellence in life and leadership. We further invest in our students by giving them opportunities to invest in our program by empowering them to teach other students, administrate parts of their classes, participate in fundraising, and help plan and coordinate in events. We don't just teach art. We are changing lives. That is what gives our program significance. Knowing this we actively seek the support of the community to provide scholarship opportunities for those would normally be unable to participate in an arts program.

I’ve been working on something new: COLOMBIA: Stories in Music — A Tobin Wagstaff in Colombia Collection.

Living in Colombia has made me realize how much there is here that I still don’t know. So I started exploring the country in a way that comes naturally to me: through music.

These pieces take stories from Colombia’s history, cultures, landscapes, folklore, and traditions and turn them into music—sometimes through spoken word and song, sometimes entirely instrumentally.

The collection has already taken me from El Dorado and the Muisca world to San Basilio de Palenque, the Magdalena River, cumbia, Madremonte, Cartagena, Colombian coffee, the páramo, Francisco José de Caldas, the Amazon rubber boom, chivas, and the marimba traditions of Colombia’s Pacific coast.

I’ve learned a tremendous amount just making them.

There are different musical versions of the stories as well as instrumental versions, so explore the playlist and listen to whatever catches your interest.

This isn’t meant to define Colombia. It’s my way of learning about the country I live in, one story at a time—and sharing that journey through music.

I’ve been working on a new project called THE 16 HUMAN ARCHETYPES.

It explores sixteen qualities that are part of being human: Vision, Compassion, Growth, Endurance, Hope, Wisdom, Courage, Integrity, Curiosity, Humility, Discipline, Creativity, Justice, Gratitude, Unity, and Love.

Each archetype has its own original song, exploring both its Gift and its Shadow—what that quality can become at its best, and what happens when it loses its balance.

The project also developed an unexpected connection to Colombia and the Muisca world. The visual mythology draws inspiration from the landscapes, materials, symbols, colors, and atmosphere of the Colombian Andes, while the music moves through different styles and emotional worlds rather than trying to make all sixteen songs sound alike.

You don’t have to start with #1. Look through the sixteen, find the quality that catches your attention, and start there.

I wrote this yesterday, and I’m very proud of how it came together.

TRUTH is a 19-minute continuous musical work about creation, the mystery of existence, and the end of creation.

It unfolds as one story through five movements:

I — VOID
II — CREATION
III — MYSTERY
IV — END
V — PEACE

The work draws inspiration from the imagery of biblical creation and prophetic literature, but the narrative itself is original.

I wanted this to be something you experience from beginning to end—not simply a collection of individual songs.

TRUTH is a continuous long-form orchestral work by Tobin Wagstaff....

Hello everyone!

I’ve been living in Colombia for a while now, and I realized I’ve never properly introduced myself.

I’m originally from the United States, but Colombia has become home while I’ve been working on a variety of creative projects. I’m an educator, author, composer, musician, graphic designer, and publisher. Over the past few years I’ve been creating children’s books, original music, educational resources, artwork, and other creative projects through the Wagstaff Library.

Instead of scattering everything across different websites and social media pages, I’ve finally brought it all together in one place:

TobinWagstaff.org

I’m not really here to sell anything—I just wanted to introduce myself and share what I’ve been working on. If you’re another creative, educator, musician, writer, designer, or just curious about the projects people are building here in Colombia, I’d love to connect.

Thanks for welcoming me into the community, and I look forward to getting to know more of you!

"Tobin Wagstaff empowers communities through drum and percussion education, music therapy, sound healing, neurodivergent advocacy, and creative authorship."
