KBCH teens publish a novel, now on Amazon!

Can you believe that these seven KBCH high schoolers wrote and published a novel this year in their co-op class?

And not just any novel, but an amazing story for tween and teen readers who enjoy emotional fantasy, mysterious dream worlds, and character-driven adventure.

"The Fight to Forward" shows that even the hardest experiences can be transformed into something meaningful and beautiful.

We’re super hopeful that this story will be a blessing, especially for anyone who faces a journey through anxiety or grief. Thank you to our support team who made this possible. Shout out to Alicia Pfahler at Restoring Hope Counseling for her endorsement.

Alone in the graveyard that both invites and frightens him, October Christian Moore closes his eyes to sleep and finds himself trapped in a world of his own memories—joyful, thrilling, and haunting. A shadow lurks at the edge of his mind, hunting him, relentless and patient. He’s been running for years, but now the darkness reaches out, and there may be no escape.

Our March speaker, Andy Renshaw, works for the City of Gainesville as a Floodplain Administrator. When a hurricane is barreling down on Florida, he’s the guy you want to know!

He was led into floodplain management via land surveying, GIS, and stormwater engineering. The common job responsibilities include:

With the wide variety of tasks and possibilities of what needs to be done, there tends not to be a "typical" day, which is what makes it interesting. But common job responsibilities include:

🫱Serving citizen inquiries
🫱Construction permit review for FEMA, NFIP, State, and local floodplain requirements
🫱Coordinating with local, state, federal and other jurisdictions concerning floodplain and flood zone subject matter
🫱Performing outreach and public events to educate on flood risk, requirements, and environmental function of floodplains
🫱Review engineering flood studies and be familiar with hydrology

What does Mr. Renshaw like best about his job? “The diversity. It’s a great blend of technical and relational as it requires both equally.”

Join us to learn all about Floodplain Management and Stormwater Engineering.

Attendees receive a career planning handout with answers to these questions and more:
✅What training or qualification does this job require?
