Saturday, November 11, was our last Beta Beta meeting. There was a good discussion about what we could do to become more active. Wendy has an idea and will let us know what she finds out. Also, we heard from Wendy and Louise about their observations of schools in the foreign countries that they visited.

Don’t forget the upcoming Christmas brunch at Martha’s on December 16.

If you missed the September meeting last Saturday, you missed a treat. We heard from Abby Burle, founder of Love Your Story, who told us about how her giving birth to premature triplets led to her establishing a residence for families who come to Gainesville to obtain treatment for a sick child. A family from Raleigh, NC, came along to tell us about their current experience staying at Molly's House while their child receives treatment at TOTS, a local physical therapy treatment center.

Here are a couple of reminders:
* We will help the teachers at White Sulphur Elementary School celebrate Teacher Appreciation Week by providing a lunch in May. Details to be discussed at upcoming meetings--
* Oct. 7 is the Alzheimer's Walk.
* Oct. 14 is the District meeting. RSVP to Jean by Oct. 6.

January 2023

I remembered to post details and pictures from our last meeting, but I can't find my notes listing details and names! Maybe I need another New Year's resolution: To post Beta Beta updates immediately after a meeting. In January, we met to conduct our auction for the Marjorie Clark scholarship. We raised an amazing $500+ to bank toward that scholarship. We also heard from two of April's friends who are set to go on a mission trip to the Dominican Republic. While they are going through their church, they are excited to get an opportunity to visit a local school so they can see education in that country. Best wishes to them as they travel. Gail was back to show off her auctioneering skills. Check out the pictures from the auction. If you weren't there, you can be envious of the goodies that you missed getting.

December 2022

Well, I'm very late in posting pics of our December meeting, which was our annual Christmas potluck lunch. We met and conducted a little business, but the best part was eating what everyone brought. It was a time to enjoy each other's company and wish everyone a Merry Christmas before going on our way. Take a look at the pictures.

The Beta Beta Chapter of Alpha Delta Kappa hosted the Athens District meeting in Gainesville at Gainesville First United Methodist Church. On Friday afternoon, we put the pumpkin patch in order in this lovely facility. There were pumpkins of every size and shape, and thanks to the kids at Chicopee Woods Elementary, there were the cutest original pumpkins to decorate our tables. Kudos, Jackie, for making the arrangements for us to use this beautiful facility, and a big thanks to the staff members who helped us!

Then Saturday morning arrived, and we welcomed our guests. April, our president, officially greeted guests, and business began. Officers met in groups to get new ideas. Ways and Means tables provided opportunities for some shopping, and old friends enjoyed getting together again. Jean rounded up delicious box lunches, and everyone visited and lunched.

The meeting concluded with an invitation to the next district meeting to be held in the spring.

Take a look at some of the pictures from the meeting.

On September 10, 2022, Beta Beta welcomed Angela from Angel House, a residential program for women who are recovering addicts. Angela wants to empower women by helping them to overcome their addiction, master their finances, complete their GED’s, and improve their workplace readiness.

During our business session, we also made plans to host the upcoming district meeting at the end of October.

August 20, 2022--The new biennium began with this meeting. New president April did a great job of presiding. We learned of the plans that have been set for the upcoming year. First is our hosting of the Athens District meeting which will occur in October. In the meantime, we needed to think about programs and a schedule for the new year. If you were not able to attend, we missed you and hope to see you at the next meeting.

On Saturday morning, the Beta Beta Chapter met to conduct our regular business. At this meeting, we also inducted new member Sandra. Welcome, Sandra! We are so glad to have you. Another highlight of the meeting was hearing from our delightful scholarship winner and from Dr. Sheri about all the many wonderful opportunities there are for education students at UNG. My, how times have changed! These are exciting changes for upcoming educators. The future of teaching is in great hands with these two. We recognized Diane's late brother and his wife by contributing to the foundation created in his name. Our sympathies, Diane, on the loss of your brother.

Take a look at the pictures to get a glimpse of us.

Merry Christmas! Beta Beta celebrated on Saturday, December 11, at Jackie's house (big thank you to Jackie). We welcomed our scholarship winner, Rocio. Genie shared Christmas memories from Kentucky to inspire us to turn our own memories toward home and childhood. Our altruism project this month was baby diapers for Family Promise. Plans were made for January's auction for our scholarship fund, for upcoming officers, and for TOTY. Most important, we honored Carlene for her service as our president during this last biennium. Thank you, Carlene. Here are some pictures from our Christmas meeting.
