Good Morning Twister Parents!
I wanted to share a message from Ms. Zeller that was sent out to us yesterday.
Dear Terwilliger families:
All of us will have an opportunity during the upcoming election to make a difference here at Terwilliger Elementary and all schools in Alachua County for years to come.
If you’ve been in our school lately, chances are you’ve seen that our facilities need work! Unfortunately, decisions made in Tallahassee have drastically cut the amount of funding available to do that work.
That's why ACPS is asking local citizens to decide whether they approve of using a new way to fund facility improvements in our schools.Called the Half Cent for Schools, it would revitalize our school and create a higher-quality learning environment for our students.
The projects planned forTerwilliger if the Half-Cent passes include:
Planned Projects:
• Security Improvements
• Construct New Kitchen/Dining/Multi-Purpose
• Renovate/Modernize 34 Existing Classrooms
• Renovate/Modernize Media Center
Renovation/modernization may include new furniture, technical infrastructure, lighting, flooring, painting, HVAC, roofing, etc
You can find more information, including the project lists for all schools and a short video about Alachua County’s school facilities crisis at:

This year’s ballot will be a long one. This item will be near the end of the ballot. It’s the second item under the heading ‘County Referenda.’ The full title is “Half-Cent Sales Surtax to Improve School Facilities.”
If you’d like more information about the impact this initiative would have on our school, please feel free to give me a call or email me at [email protected]
And thank you for your continued support of Terwilliger Elementary School!
This message is for us to be informed that this 1/2 cent sale is not just for our school but for all of the schools and really makes a difference.

Everyone benefits from high-quality schools. They attract new residents, businesses, and jobs, all of which boost the economy and lead to a better quality of life for our citizens.

An article from the Gainesville Sun Newspaper. I'm working on setting some events up and making contact with parents who have already signed up for PTA. I would also love to speak with parents that have not yet joined. It is critical that us Parents and Teachers and our community as a whole work together as a team to get the school's grade up to at least a "C" by the end of the year. Every little bit of effort helps.
Megan Hendricks: Making public schools everyone's priority
Soshema Pate, PTA president at Terwilliger Elementary School, held back tears when asked how her 7-year old son feels about his public school.
