The 2026 recipients of a Gainesville High School honorary diploma were revealed and recognized at a luncheon last week in the Sammy Smith Media Center on the campus of Gainesville High School. Please join us in congratulating Dr. Robert Bruner and Mr. Bryson Worley. The two men will be formally recognized during Gainesville’s commencement ceremony May 22 at City Park Stadium.

Dr. Bruner, a dentist in Gainesville for more than 35 years, has spent decades providing free dental care to those in need through the Good News Clinics. He is also well-known for leading Boy Scout Troop 16 where he helped more than 250 young men from our area reach the rank of Eagle Scout.

Worley spent 15 years at Gainesville High School, first as a special education teacher, then as assistant principal. On top of his work in the office, Worley headed up the Red Elephants’ boys golf program, which he led to eight region championships and two state championships.

Our community's relationship to City Park Stadium runs deep. It's unique not just to this area, but the state as a whole thanks in part to its location, but more so for the tradition it houses and the legends who've called it home. Bobby Gruhn Field at City Park Stadium and the Walt Snelling Pressbox therein was made even better thanks to the monies collected through ESPLOST VI. ESPLOST VII is up for vote May 19.
