UF Plant Science Major

UF Plant Science Major The UF Plant Science Major teaches students how to help improve the world through plants! Students may earn B.S. or B.A.

Plant science is a diverse major offered collaboratively by the departments of Agronomy, Environmental Horticulture and Plant Pathology. degrees depending on their specialization. Available specializations provide a range of opportunities in the food and agricultural sector. The specializations are designed to provide students with an interdisciplinary perspective of these areas. The degree prepar

es graduates for careers in production agriculture, turf and ornamentals production, agribusiness sales and marketing, design and management of gardens, private consulting in plant production and protection, restoration of land and aquatic spaces, public policy and regulation related to agriculture, community garden management, international agriculture and field or laboratory technical support. Plant science can also be used as preparation for studies in graduate and professional school. All students, regardless of specialization, are required to take an introductory plant science course and a capstone experience course and all must complete an internship related to their area of interest. Upper-division approved electives are designed to build knowledge, competency and skills applicable to professional development.

The Plant Science Council is sharing a relaxed workshop and Q&A, so you can learn from current graduate students, program coordinators, and peers!

Will be representing a range of graduate programs in the plant sciences, from plant breeding, to plant pathology, conservation, production, and landscapes. but the presentations will help you explore anything within the natural sciences! All ages welcome (even freshmen, if you’re plotting a course!)

Spring is springing! ☀️🌱🌸
It’s been a pleasure being out on the Horticultural Sciences Teaching Farm with classes this week, ranging from environmental science majors exploring the connections of sustainability and food systems, to upper division Plant science majors digging into organic farming!

There are loads of ways to connect with us, from a one credit vegetable gardening class, or joining for a festival, to working in a Plant Science Minor, to becoming a major or double major! How do YOU want to dig into with plants!?
