Mayfaire is an annual outdoor festival that ritually welcomes Spring, and it is traditionally celebrated by Waldorf schools throughout the world. May Day is generally celebrated as close to May first as the calendar allows.
The roots of Maypole dancing come from the time when celebrations were Earth-centered and matriarchal. Maypole dancing can easily be traced to Europe, but many are surprised to know that Afro-Caribbean Countries also celebrate Maypole dancing. It is, for instance, the national dance of St. Vincent in the Caribbean. Maypole dancing has been practiced in India, North Africa and elsewhere. In Cuba and other Afro-In Caribbean cultures, the Maypole has developed into a very sophisticated dance, far more complex than its European counterparts. Mayfaire is a unique part of life surrounding Morning Meadow and other Waldorf schools.
This event engages the students with the larger community. It celebrates the spirit in which Waldorf schools hope to nourish and support the childβs connection to nature and the seasonal cycles, as well as connecting all of us in the universality of these celebrations as we continue to embrace festivals that have their origin in many different cultures.

"In this modern world where activity is stressed to the point of mania,
quietness as a childhood need is too often overlooked." π¦

Teacher appreciation this past week was epic!
Our week started with ceramic mugs made by a local artist, one for each teacher that was filled with delicious matcha made by a mom and daughter that we were each served. Creamy, warm and full of love! Everyday was followed by pastries, breakfast and flowers, lunches made of homemade spring rolls that each looked like art and chocolates from Thornbrook chocolates. Gifts, notes and art work created by the children.
Thank you parents for showering us with so much love and appreciation. It was the absolute best week! A special thank you to Brittany and Sydney for organizing β€οΈππ½.
Thank you for a very special week.

π©· Birthdays are no random event, planets, stars, time of day or night are all at play when a child is born.
Enthusiastically a child looks forward to the day they are recognized and celebrated.
In Waldorf schools birthdays are held with intention and celebration to both recognize the individual as well as have their peers join in celebration to build community within the classrooms as well as to mark these passages along a year's timeline.
In early childhood, the birthday is celebrated with specific intention as a both celebration and gratitude that a child has chosen to return to support the evolution of humanity.
Birthday celebrations in a Waldorf early childhood classroom honor the journey that parent and child have made to find each other.π
