Our spring 2024 Junior Fellows cohort! Today was our capstone research symposium and these terrifically talented students crushed it! Each year they get better and the opportunity to work one on one with faculty takes this huge university down to the personal level for each of them.

This year's Best Undergraduate Thesis Award goes to Yesha Shah for her study of "The Carceral State and its Threat to American Democracy: The Relationship Between Youth Carceral Contact and Political Participation." Professor Michael Martinez supervised Yesha's thesis research.

Our Best Graduate Paper Award goes to Shadi Heidarifar for her paper, "From State Feminism to Feminist Nationalism: A Case Study of Mainstream Feminism in Iran," submitted in Professor Patricia Sohn's CPO 6407 Modern Middle East Politics seminar.

This year's award for the Best Undergraduate Paper goes to Elizabeth Estep for her paper, "How Precedent and Deference to the Fundamental Principles of the First Amendment Guide the Decision in Texas v. Johnson (1989).". Elizabeth submitted this paper in Professor Samuel Stafford's POS3606: American Civil Liberties.
