Like the saying goes, “perception is everything.”

It doesn’t really matter what actually happened or what was actually said.

What matters is what we perceive because that’s what will influence how we feel and how we respond.

Is someone lazy by laying on the couch all day or are they good at self-care?

Both are perceptions!

Reality is simply that the person was on the couch from 10 am to 6 pm.

Anything we make it mean is perception.

Read that again.

The Art of Making Requests is life changing.

When we don’t ask for what we want, we’re guaranteed not to get it.

Similarly, when we use vague language like “I want you to listen” or “I want you to accept me” we also won’t get what we want because it doesn’t give the other person something ACTIONABLE to do.

Try:
• “Will you reflect back what you heard matters to me?”
• “Would you tel me how you feel about me doing this?”
• “Would you be willing to share what parts of my idea you liked?”

All of these give something:
• Specific
• Actionable/ Doable

Empathy is my “thing.”

Like, that’s what I do.

Whether it’s in my work with individuals, couples, or groups, empathy is what I strive to embody and emanate.

To me, it’s clear that empathy is the medicine this world needs; that empathy is what solves issues.

Empathy isn’t just about intellectually understanding another person, but understanding them in a way that allows us to be touched by their experience.

When we’re in that place, then we experience true connection.

And connection is
