A big thank you to John F. Crawford Homes for generously donating several backpacks filled with school supplies to the Alachua Police Department.

The backpacks were distributed to our School Resource Officers at Alachua Elementary School and W.W. Irby Elementary School, who will provide them to students as they see a need throughout the school year.

Community partnerships like this help us better serve the families and students in the City of Alachua. We are grateful to Crawford Homes for stepping up to support our local schools and being a valued community partner.

Alachua County Public School families, staff and high school students:

This is a reminder that spectators at high school home football games are permitted to bring one clear bag into school stadiums and Citizens Field. This requirement also applies to other middle and high school sporting events at Alachua County Public School venues.

Permissible bags include clear plastic, vinyl or PVC totes no larger than 12” x 12” x 6” and clear plastic resealable bags no larger than a gallon size. Items related to a medical condition are also permitted. (A person with a medical item may also bring one clear bag.)

All individuals and permitted bags are subject to search at any time. Spectators will be asked to return any prohibited items to their vehicles before entering a stadium. Weapons of any kind are NOT allowed in bags, on persons or in vehicles parked on district property or at school-sponsored events.

Prohibited items include but are not limited to: purses, backpacks, coolers, f***y packs, camera bags, computer cases, diaper bags and binocular cases. Again, medical items are permitted, but may be subject to search.

We appreciate your support as we work to maintain a safe environment for everyone participating in these events.

Certified therapy dog and ACPS school safety ambassador Nox stopped by the Duval Early Learning Academy today to show off some tricks, read books with the students and share important messages about being safe at school. He also got more than a few scritches for being such a good boy!

Families have until September 30 to update important information about their students through the Skyward Family Access Annual Updates process. That includes contact information, emergency contacts, the annual Health Services form and more. Instructions to set up an account and complete Annual Updates are available at alachuaschools.net/familyaccess.

Parents and guardians can protect their entire family from the flu by signing up their child to receive the FluMist nasal spray immunization at school. It's safe, easy and free! Hard copy consent forms are coming home from school, or you can sign up online at alachuaschools.net/flumist. Deadline is September 28.

The feature film It Ends, which has received glowing reviews, will be released nationally this Friday. It was co-produced by Gainesville High School alum Carrie Carusone, a New York-based director and producer, who also served as the film's production designer. Our Broadway grads recently spent time with their former ACPS teachers, who got to go backstage after watching them perform! Congratulations to Terrence Williams, Jr. and Chrissy Metz on their success and to former chorus teacher Diana Rollo and former theater teacher Tammy Meyers for making a difference in the lives of their students!
