📚 One final Algebra Jumpstart before school begins!

One of the greatest joys of this summer's Algebra Intensive was watching students grow in both their math skills and their confidence. During our final reflection, one student shared that she had gone from not liking math to thinking it was actually kind of fun. As a math teacher, that's hard to beat.

Because of the success of the first group, I'm opening one final Algebra Jumpstart at the beginning of August for students preparing to take Algebra 1.

This small-group intensive is designed to strengthen the Pre-Algebra skills and foundational Algebra concepts that help students begin the school year with confidence.

✔️ In-person in NW Gainesville

✔️ Maximum of 3 students

✔️ Beginning in early August

✔️ Step Up for Students direct-pay provider (PEP & FES accepted)

If your student is entering Algebra 1 this fall and you'd like more information, I'd love to chat! Feel free to send me a message. 😊

📚 After a wonderful first Algebra Intensive, I'm considering offering one more small-group Algebra Jumpstart before school begins, and I'd love to gauge interest!

After wrapping up my first Intro to Algebra Summer Intensive, I'm considering offering one final small-group session during the last couple weeks before school starts.

One of the best parts of this summer was watching students gain confidence—not just in their math skills, but in themselves. In fact, one student shared in her end-of-course reflection that she had gone from not liking math to actually thinking it was kind of fun. As a math teacher, I honestly can't think of a better compliment.

This program would be designed for students who will be taking Algebra 1 this fall and would benefit from strengthening their foundation before the school year begins.

Rather than simply previewing Algebra, we'll strengthen essential Pre-Algebra skills while learning the foundational Algebra concepts that often become the biggest stumbling blocks later in the course.

✨ Maximum of 3 students

✨ Face-to-face instruction in Gainesville

✨ Step Up for Students direct-pay provider (PEP & FES accepted)

At this point, I'm simply seeing if there's enough interest before I finalize dates.

If you have a rising 7th–9th grader who may benefit, send me a message and I'll add you to the interest list! 😊

And that's a wrap on this year's in-person Intro to Algebra Summer Intensive! 🥹🦕

What a fun four weeks it's been.

One of my favorite memories from this class happened early on, when a student stopped in the middle of a lesson and asked, "Why do I think this is so fun? Do I... like math?" 😅

At the end of the program, during our course reflection, she shared that she had gone from not liking math to actually thinking it was kind of fun.

As a math teacher, I honestly can't think of a better compliment.

More than anything, I hope my students leave believing they're capable of learning challenging math—and maybe even enjoying it along the way.

I'm so proud of these girls, how much they've learned, the confidence they've built, and the growth I've seen over the past four weeks. It has truly been a joy to be part of their journey. ❤️

Meet Algebrasaurus. 🦕🎩

One of my students created this little guy during our Algebra Intensive, and he quickly became the unofficial mascot of the class. 😄

Last week, Algebrasaurus helped us kick off our graphing lesson—and was pretty excited to learn we'd be using colored pencils. 😂

I love that even while we're tackling challenging Algebra concepts, there's still room for creativity, laughter, and a little bit of fun.

Learning should be fun, too. ❤️

And that's a wrap on Week 1 of Algebra Intensive! ☀️

The girls and I had a great first week together, already tackling some of the concepts that often feel intimidating when students first encounter Algebra. There were lots of "ah-ha!" moments and several comments along the lines of, "This really isn't as hard as I thought!" 😊

We did have to make a quick pivot after Day 1 thanks to an unexpected visit from hand, foot, and mouth disease in our house, but thanks to my wonderful husband, Andrew Cobb, our screened-in patio was cleaned up and ready to become our temporary classroom. ❤️

My favorite moment of the week came while we were deep into factoring trinomials. One student suddenly stopped and exclaimed:

"Why do I think this is so fun? Do I like math?!" 🥹😅

That comment absolutely made my week.

One of my biggest goals as a teacher is helping students discover that math isn't something to fear—and maybe even helping them find a little enjoyment in it along the way. Seeing that happen this week was so rewarding.

I'm so proud of the hard work these girls put in during Week 1, and I'm excited to see what Week 2 brings! 💪📚

One of my favorite parts of preparing for a new program is putting together the little extras. 😊

Today's project: welcome kits for my Algebra Intensive students! I loved the message on these pouches—"Embrace the Journey."

Learning Algebra isn't about being perfect. It's about building skills, growing confidence, and learning to tackle challenges one step at a time.

Looking forward to starting Monday! ☀️

Getting everything ready for my Intro to Algebra Summer Intensive that starts Monday! ☀️

I've been printing materials, organizing lessons, putting together teacher guides, and gathering supplies as I put the finishing touches on the program. I'm excited to help students build confidence and strengthen their math foundations before Algebra 1 begins.

My in-person group is full, but I still have a couple spots available in the online section if anyone is looking for a little extra Algebra prep this summer.

I'm excited to get started! 😊

Many students begin Algebra 1 feeling unsure of themselves—not because they aren't capable, but because they're missing a few key foundational skills.

With my Intro to Algebra Summer Intensive beginning next Monday, this is a great opportunity for students to spend four weeks strengthening those foundations before the school year begins.

Over the course of the program, students will review important Pre-Algebra concepts while also gaining an in-depth introduction to some of the Algebra skills that often become stumbling blocks later in the year. The goal is not simply to get ahead, but to build understanding and confidence before Algebra begins.

✔️ Live online instruction

✔️ Maximum 3 students

✔️ June 8 – July 2

✔️ Mondays, Tuesdays & Thursdays

✔️ 10:45 AM – 12:15 PM

✔️ Rising 7th–9th graders

✔️ Step Up for Students direct-pay provider (PEP & FES accepted)

My in-person section has already filled, and I still have a couple openings available in the online section.

If your student is heading into Algebra 1 this fall and would benefit from a stronger foundation, I'd be happy to answer any questions and see if the program would be a good fit.

Only ONE spot remains in the online section of my Intro to Algebra Summer Intensive! ☀️

The in-person group has officially filled, and I now have just one remaining opening in the online section, which begins in 3 weeks.

This small-group intensive is designed for students heading into Algebra 1 who would benefit from:
✨ Strengthening foundational math skills
✨ Building confidence with problem-solving
✨ Feeling prepared—not overwhelmed—when Algebra begins

Over the course of the program, students will review and strengthen key Pre-algebra concepts and have an in-depth overview of Algebra concepts that often become stumbling blocks later on.

My goal is not just to “preview” Algebra, but to help students truly understand the foundation behind it so they can enter the school year with confidence.

📍 Small-group online format
📍 Runs from June 8 - July 2
📍 Meets M, T, Th @ 10:45-12:15
📍 Rising 7th–9th graders
📍 Step Up for Students direct-pay provider (PEP & FES accepted)
