Screen time isn’t the enemy.
Passive screen time is.

Here’s the “tinkering effect” in plain English:
Kids don’t become problem-solvers by watching someone build.
They become problem-solvers by breaking stuff… then fixing it.

Robotics + hands-on STEM forces the skills most kids aren’t practicing enough:
- Trial and error (aka “failure” without the drama)
- Patience
- Debugging
- Teamwork
- “I can figure this out” confidence

Watching videos feels productive.
But it’s mostly consumption.
Tinkering is creation.
And creation is where the brain actually levels up.

Parents are split on AI in classrooms.
Some are like: “This is cheating.”
Others: “This is the future.”

Here’s the uncomfortable truth:
AI isn’t going away. And your kid’s future boss won’t care about the debate… they’ll care if your kid can WORK with it.

AI literacy isn’t “letting a bot do your homework.”
It’s:
- Asking better questions (prompting)
- Spotting bias + misinformation
- Verifying sources (yes, even when AI sounds confident)
- Using AI to build, code, design, and solve problems faster
- Understanding what’s private vs what you should NEVER paste into a tool

Banning it won’t prepare them.
Teaching it responsibly will.

Fairfax Coding Camps-Registration is open!

July 11-15

In this popular camp students will create a Fortnite-style Battle Royale game in Roblox! Students will learn both the basics of 3D game development and fundamental programming concepts using the Lua programming language. This camp is designed for beginner to intermediate students who are interested in both programming and game development.
Online safety is at the core of what we do at Skill Samurai. We’re completely compatible with Roblox’s parental controls, including disabling chat capabilities, publishing moderation, and identifiable information restrictions. While coding with us, you test your games yourself in Roblox Studio, and only friends who have been invited can join to test your games.
This fun mix is a great mix of on-screen learning and off-screen fun challenges.

Every afternoon students will work on a collaborative STEM building challenge.

Students will be creating games that they can publish and play with friends.

Using the power of Lua Programming and the Roblox Studio, in this course, you will create a Fortnite-style Roblox game filled with custom weapons of your own design.
It’s you against every other Robloxian in this game as you have to avoid the incoming storm and fight to the #1 spot.
In this course, students can:
● Create their own Fortnite-style Battle Royale!
● Learn Lua Programming
● Use Animation, For Loops, Global Scripts, and Client/Server Events
● Embark on 6 Epic Quests
● Complete 32 Coding Challenges

We are looking for coding coaches for after-school and summer camp programs in Minecraft, Roblox, 3D character design, and robotics. Successful coaches/Instructors have a passion for technology and working with children and teens of ages 7-16

Pay: $20-$28 per hour

What You Will Do and Learn:
Develop coaching and mentoring skills, and inspire the next generation of innovators
Teaching, leading activities, and building relationships with a diverse group of children and parents
Help create a social media plan and business development plan - Desirable
Enhance the curriculum to keep apace of evolving industry trends - Desirable

What We Require:
Passion for technology e.g., Minecraft, Roblox, streaming, YouTube, 3D character design, and robotics
Desire to lead and mentor children and teens
Communication and confidence
High level of energy and work ethic
A current or expected degree or diploma in the fields of education, STEM

Instructors teach and mentor kids ages 7-16 to ensure that they understand the coding concepts. They assist with daily instructional and classroom responsibilities.
