That mission shapes the way we approach education. We want our students to grow in biblical knowledge, and we also want what they learn to prepare them for the people, churches, ministries, and communities God has called them to serve.

Because ministry education isn’t simply about earning credits. It’s about becoming better equipped to faithfully live out your calling.

Leadership isn’t only about what you do for others. The health of your own relationship with God matters, too.

In Strengthening the Soul of Your Leadership: Seeking God in the Crucible of Ministry, Ruth Haley Barton explores the inner life of a leader and the importance of making space to hear from God in the midst of the demands of ministry.

It’s a fitting resource for those learning to lead without allowing the responsibilities of leadership to overshadow their own spiritual formation.

This book is also part of the learning experience within Ascent’s Women in Ministry Leadership Certificate, a fully online program designed to equip women for healthy, effective, and Spirit-led leadership.

A little planning can make a big difference.

When you’re balancing school with work, family, church, and ministry, taking assignments one week at a time can quickly become overwhelming. Instead, make it a habit to look ahead.

Read your syllabus. Know when larger assignments are coming. Pay attention to weeks that may require extra reading or study time, and plan accordingly.

Preparing ahead can help you protect the things that matter outside of school, too. Your Sunday church experience shouldn’t have to become last-minute homework time because an assignment caught you by surprise.

Take a few minutes this week to look at what’s coming down the pike. Your future self will thank you!

Spiritual growth doesn’t happen by accident. It requires making intentional space for God in the rhythms of everyday life.

Students in MIN103 are reading Spiritual Disciplines Handbook: Practices That Transform Us by Adele Ahlberg Calhoun. The book explores a variety of spiritual practices designed to help believers deepen their relationship with God and become more attentive to His work in their lives.

From prayer and Scripture to worship, service, rest, and reflection, this resource challenges readers to consider how their everyday habits can create room for spiritual transformation.

Don’t underestimate the discussion board.

It can be easy to think of discussion posts as just another assignment to check off your list, but they’re also one of the places where community happens in an online classroom.

Your classmates bring different experiences, perspectives, ministry backgrounds, and questions to the conversation. Taking the time to thoughtfully read and respond gives you an opportunity to learn from one another, encourage each other, and build relationships with people who are walking through the semester alongside you.

So don’t just post and disappear. Join the conversation. You never know what you might learn or who you might connect with.
