What’s something patients often worry about that turns out not to be scary at all?

Abby's answer: The needles hurting - they really don’t! Despite my mom being an acupuncturist, I used to be PETRIFIED of needles. When I finally started letting her treat me, I was pleasantly surprised that the needles did not really hurt. They cause sensations - they might be achey, or sharp, or tingly, sometimes even stingy - but it’s not at all like hypodermic needles because they’re so teeny tiny.

What’s a small change you’ve seen in a patient that made a big difference?

Dagny's answer: I had an elderly patient who was seeking help with high blood pressure without prescription medication. Although I encouraged her to continue to follow up with her general practitioners, I also had to let go and simply do everything I could to help. By her third acupuncture treatment, her blood pressure had dropped to a safe level. This showed me the power of this medicine and the mind / body / spirit connection.
