Gaines Elementary School

Gaines Elementary School Gaines Elementary is a pre-kindergarten through fifth grade school, nestled in the small, rural, family-oriented village of Gaines, Michigan.

The members of Gaines Elementary are closely connected, with each staff member, student, family member and community member playing a significant role in the success of Gaines. The small town atmosphere fosters relationships that are genuine and long-lasting. Our students have excelled on local and state assessments in ELA and math due to a team of teachers and support staff who work diligently to

ensure that all students learn and grow socially, develop emotionally, and succeed academically. We use two support systems simultaneously that we believe have solidified our consistent success with our student population, MTSS and PBiS. MTSS (multi-tiered systems of support) delivers differentiated instruction of our research-based curriculum to students based on the analysis of formative and summative assessment data. PBiS is our positive behavior support system that starts with universal behavior expectations that are kid-friendly. Students are recognized for exhibiting our CREEK behaviors: commit to learning, respect others, everyone safe, everyone responsible and kindness counts. Gaines uses a shared leadership approach, with the Principal filling the role of lead learner. Staff, parents and students are all engaged in leadership roles and equipping our students with the skills they need in life to be productive members of society.

FREE screenings will be available Friday, August 21, from 9 a.m.–4 p.m. at the Cage Fieldhouse. ❤️🤍

No appointment needed, just stop by!

Back-to-school season is here, Dragons! ❤️🤍

The first day of school for all Swartz Creek students is Monday, August 31, and it’s a half-day PM schedule for everyone! We are so excited to welcome our Dragons back. Here are a few things families can do now to help make the transition as smooth as possible:

✅ Ease Into the Routine: Start shifting bedtimes and wake-up times now. A steady routine can make those first mornings much easier!

✅ Practice Lunch Skills: For our younger Dragons, practice opening lunch containers, snack packages, and water bottles. Those little skills build confidence and independence.

✅ Keep School Supplies Simple for Now: General elementary and middle school supply lists are available on our website by grade level, but we recommend sticking with the basics for now—pencils, notebooks, folders, highlighters, etc. Save those receipts and wait until Open House or until your child’s teacher shares any classroom-specific needs before purchasing too much. High school families should wait until classes begin and teachers share what students will need for each course.

✅ Talk It Through: Talk with your child about what the school day might look like. A little preparation can go a long way toward easing nerves and building excitement.

✅ Label Everything: Backpacks, jackets, water bottles, lunchboxes—if it’s heading to school, put a name on it!

🚨 Early 5s & Kindergarten Families: Parents will attend with their child on the first day from 1:00–2:00 PM for a special welcome. More information will be mailed with classroom placement letters.

🏫 Schedule Pick Up & Open Houses Are Coming! High School Schedule Pick Up is August 20, Middle School Schedule Pick Up is August 27, and Middle School and Elementary Open Houses are August 27. The High School Open House will be on September 8. Check the graphic for specific times and details.

📩 As we get closer to August 31, watch for school-specific communication from your child’s building with everything you need to start the year feeling prepared, including elementary classroom placement letters.

We can’t wait to fill our classrooms and hallways with Dragons again. Here’s to a great 2026–2027 school year! Go Dragons! ❤️🤍
