[03/17/20]   HUGE shoutout to Chipotle! Middle School South had a dining out night last night. We knew we may not hit the minimum sales needed for a donation. We were going to donate the proceeds to GRIN. Well, we did NOT hit the minimum. I responded to the email they sent today and indicated we were bummed because we were going to donate to our local food pantry. Within minutes, they can back and gave us the donation as if we hit the minimum sales. So, $100 goes to GRIN from Chipotle and GMSS. Not a ton of money, but every cent counts! So grateful for the businesses in this community!

[03/12/20]   New Guidelines for GJPS Events- from our Superintendent

March 12, 2020
Dear Gahanna-Jefferson school community,

As you know, we continue to place the highest priority on the health and well-being of our students, staff and families. As new cases of the coronavirus (COVID-19) increase across the state and country, we want to update you with what Gahanna-Jefferson Public Schools is doing to help slow the spread of the virus.

Yesterday, Governor DeWine previewed his intention to issue an executive order within the next day or two that will prohibit mass gatherings of people in Ohio in an attempt to slow the spread of COVID-19.

Heeding the advice of Governor Dewine, and in the continued interest of keeping our school environment safe and healthy, we are taking the following precautions to limit gatherings of people in our school buildings that do not include students and GJPS staff.

As of today, Thursday, March 12, 2020, all school-related and district-sponsored after school events involving parents, family members, volunteers or community members are canceled or postponed until further notice. Any school-related or district-sponsored event involving only GJPS students and staff will continue as scheduled. The following chart provides examples of these scenarios.

As listed above, activities and events during the school day will continue for students, teachers and GJPS staff. Outside visitors and volunteers such as parents, guardians, families and friends will not be permitted to attend. Programs and assemblies with personnel from outside organizations that are scheduled to perform or teach a class to students during the school day will be canceled.

This is a rapidly changing situation. District administrators will continue to assess these precautions and timelines, making adjustments as necessary. We will do our best to keep you updated as swiftly as possible.

We know much of this creates disappointment and inconvenience, and for that we are sorry. These decisions are being made in the best interest of our entire school community and to help slow the spread of COVID-19. We all need to work together to protect the health of our students, staff, families and the Gahanna-Jefferson community.

As always, we appreciate your understanding during this time.

[01/24/20]   From Sendel:

Want to join the fight in battling the Australian bush fires?!

This year, Enviro—the environmental and conservation club I advise at Gahanna Middle School South—is partnering up with the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium to raise money to help Zoos Victoria and the Bushfire Emergency Wildlife Fund in Australia.

Students will be collecting donations through February 29th. Last year, they raised $1,025 for giraffe conservation and this year, they’re hoping to exceed that amount—but we need your help!

If you’re interested in donating, here are the ways you can do so!

1. Venmo me your donation with a comment so I know what it’s for.

2. Donate cash/check by giving it to me or my lovely wife, Brandy Shelton!

Checks can be made out to GMSS PTO!

If you need to mail your donation, please send it to:

Gahanna Middle School South
ATTN: Cailin Sendelbach-Shelton
349 Shady Spring Drive
Gahanna, Ohio 45434

Thank you for joining our fight in conserving our world for future generations!!
