Parents' Association of Columbus Academy - PACA

We are the parents of Columbus Academy. If you are a CA parent, then you are automatically a member of PACA! Follow here for community 411.

Welcome to PACA! The Parents' Association of Columbus Academy (PACA) is open to all parents within our school. PACA leadership provides support to parents, administrators and varied student activities as well as fundraising for scholarships and other school projects. PACA plans such events as the Spring Gala and Charlie David Dinner that bring the school community together. The Columbus Academy relies on the involvement of parents as an integral part of the school community. The partnership between educators and parents is a critical alliance that enriches the lives of all our students. Parents/teacher conferences and scheduled discussions with division heads offer valuable opportunities for information and exchange. The connections between parents also serve as a part of the web of support that strengthens our school experience. Parent volunteers are also critical to the success of the Annual Fund which directly supports school operations. Parent/teacher conferences and discussions led by division heads offer valuable opportunities for exchange of information and perspective. Of course, parents also serve as models for students in our school community, whether driving on campus, attending a performance/sporting event or hosting a social gathering.

Mission: The purposes of the Parents' Association of Columbus Academy (PACA) are fourfold: to foster a close relationship among CA, its students and members of the Association; to encourage support of the work of the trustees, administration and faculty of the school in achieving its goals; to serve as a channel of communication between members of the Association and the trustees, administration and faculty of the school; and to sponsor activities that promote the quality of school life.

Hope everyone is enjoying summer! In case you are starting to plan for the school year...this may help. Key dates for next year.

Westerville Crew

(Post from Ruth Milligan) There have been a small but steady stream of CA kids who have enjoyed rowing at Westerville Crew - one of them, Livy Seline, is featured in the video! If you have a child 8th grade (rising) or older that hasn't yet "found their sport" -- Learn to Row, a summer 2 week program, is a great way to try it out. Details below - or feel free to DM me with any questions! - Ruth

SEEKING NEW ROWERS! Or at least those that want to try it out! If you know someone in 8th grade or older who hasn't found their sport yet, or wants to try a new one, encourage them to try out our LEARN TO ROW summer program.

Each session is 2 weeks and runs daily from 4:45-7pm. Sessions begin June 17, July 8 and July 22. Registration link here:

A few quick notes for those who want to learn more about joining crew: While rowing season runs all year long, a new rower can choose to enter into the novice program at any point - fall, winter or spring. You just need to be in 8th grade or older. Fall and spring practices are on Hoover Reservoir and winter practices are at our Erg Facility in Westerville off of Cleveland Ave. Regattas are in the fall and spring, approximately 4 per season. Feel free to post a note here or send us a direct message if you have any additonal questions. Or send us an email at [email protected].

Columbus Monthly Magazine

Proud of our CA parents!

Before they were Columbus culinary superstars, Kevin and Katy Malhame were idealists with a dream of creating a restaurant unlike any other in Central Ohio. Northstar Cafe is 15 years old this year; here's the story we published in 2004 about Northstar's beginnings.

[01/07/19]   Happy New Year Parents/Guardians!!

We know that every family is running on overdrive and we want to be mindful of your time. Bearing that in mind, Mike and I are cancelling the regularly scheduled PACA Forum for this coming Wednesday, January 9.

Please take a look at the Division Parent updates as they are sent out this week and the PACA website for the various activities happening this month.

We look forward to seeing you for our next Forum on Wednesday, February 6th at 8am in the dining hall.

PACA – Parents and Guardians Association of Columbus Academy

Welcome back to school! Among the many things happening - we are proud to share that we, PACA, have a new website. Our goals in rebuilding the site were to give a "home" to all the information we share (no more living inside emails only); give you easier ways to be involved and get engaged; and bring some more consistency in how we communicate with you.

This means you may see a few LESS emails from us (we know! you are crushed!) but we may encourage you to check the site a bit more or subscribe to the feeds that can send information to you through various channels. More on that in the coming weeks!

There are still a few pages in development, but take a look. We'll be posting more about its functionality with "class news feeds" once we have news to share. Let us know any feedback you have at any time!

Afraid to gamble? Don't fret! Purchase notecards and posters of your class' Masterworks and/or of your student's individual art. Orders available for pickup at the Lower School Ice Cream Social in August.

Check out the Masterworks here:

Masterworks by Mastermind Mr. C! Check out these amazing pieces created by our talented, and totally adorable, LS artists! If you want your child's piece in your permanent collection, buy your raffle tickets here:

You can't win if you don't play!!

There are many benefits of PACA. This past week another excellent example was provided during the regular PACA SEED (Seeking Educational Equity and Diversity) meeting. Middle school librarian Stacy Nockowitz presented information on the purpose, identification and skills that can be employed to recognize "Fake News". As our children grow and learn, the skills of being aware of and identifying fake news are increasingly important and Columbus Academy is again on the leading edge in preparing our students to meet the challenges fake news poses. For more information on the presentation and materials provided, click below to go to the SEED page on the PACA website. All parents welcome to look at and discuss topics in diversity through their own eyes and those of fellow parents, in confidential meetings over the course of the school year. Topics touch upon issues and themes that Columbus Academy students are exposed to throughout the school year.
