Three years ago, this group of students walked into AVID as 6th graders. Standing in front of them was a 6th grade science teacher turned full time AVID at a brand new school. We began this new journey together.

Since then, we’ve shared countless memories, challenges, laughs, field trips, tutorials, celebrations, and milestones together. I’ve had the privilege of watching them grow not only as students, but as leaders, teammates, and incredible young people.

To my 8th grade AVID students: thank you for allowing me to be part of your journey. While I hope I have made a positive impact on your lives, please know that you have impacted mine just as much. Your perseverance, growth, kindness, and determination have made me a better teacher and reminded me every day why I love what I do.

As you begin your next chapter at Gaffney High School, I hope you continue to dream big, work hard, and believe in yourselves. Carry the lessons you’ve learned, embrace new opportunities, and never forget how capable you are of achieving great things.

Three years with you all in my classroom daily and it’s hard to let you go. I am so proud of each and every one of you. I love you! I am always here. Once AVID family, always AVID family. ❤️

Good luck, Class of 2030. Gaffney High is lucky to have you. YOU are the prize, you set the tone, you control YOUR narrative. Always remember that. 🎓✨

What an incredible night at our GMS AVID Meet & Greet and Signing Night! 💜💛🖤

Future AVID students and families explored interactive booths, learned about the AVID program, signed their AVID commitments, received certificates, and officially became “Officially AVID!” 🎉

A huge shoutout to our amazing 7th and 8th grade AVID student leaders who helped lead activities, welcome families, and make the night such a success. We are so proud of their leadership and positivity! 👏

Here are the videos from our 8th grade AVID and Yearbook trip to the Hub City Spartanburgers Education Day ⚾🎉

Our students had the chance to participate in between innings games and truly be part of the action on the field 🙌🔥 It was so fun to watch them step out of their comfort zones, cheer each other on, and make unforgettable memories!

Our 8th grade AVID and Yearbook students had an amazing time at the Hub City Spartanburgers Education Day on Tuesday, April 21st ⚾🎉

The day was filled with so much fun as students participated in games and activities, explored the many careers that make a sports stadium run, and learned just how many opportunities exist beyond the field 🏟️💼

Of course, one of the highlights was catching all the flying baseballs during the game… and we had plenty of excited students walking away with souvenirs! ⚾🙌

It was a great day of learning, teamwork, and real world connections outside the classroom 💛

Our AVID students have been putting in the work to get ready for the upcoming SC READY tests 📚✨ and they did it in a way that brought energy, challenge, and a whole lot of thinking into the room!

Over the past two classes, students dove into a test taking escape room 🔐 where they had to apply different strategies and “hack” questions they didn’t immediately know how to answer 🧠💡 Instead of giving up, they leaned into productive struggle, worked collaboratively, and used critical thinking to break down each challenge 🤝

It was so exciting to watch the problem solving, determination, and teamwork in action 🙌🔥 And yes… we had some winners who successfully escaped 🏆🎉
