We kicked off our 2026-2027 Cultural Arts programs today with Number Drummer. Each grade level participated in a specially designed program just for them during their extension time. Students used buckets, cowbells, trash cans, and drumsticks to learn about the connection between math and music. 🎶

Special thanks to the United Arts Wake County for their grant and supporters of our Lincoln Heights Elementary PTA, who brought this fun, active, educational, and at times loud 😉 experience to our school.

Thank you to Mr. K from Number Drummer for visiting our school and a big thanks to the many wonderful volunteers, staff members, and students who helped make everything run smoothly! What a great way to kick off our Cultural Arts year!

Stay tuned for more exciting performances March and April 2027, as well as, our 5th grade visual arts legacy project in February 2027.

Our Book Fair begins NEXT WEEK and we need YOUR HELP!

It takes many hands to help make our book fair successful each year and there are so many ways to get involved. Volunteers are needed for set-up, day to day check out, and the saddest day of all...tear down.

Today our Lincoln Heights Tigers showed off their amazing audience skills for our Incredible Storyteller, Ms. Donna Washington. Based in Durham, she travels around the world sharing her gift for storytelling.

For students in grades Kindergarten through Second, she shared the story of Rumplestiltskin and the importance of telling the truth. She challenged students to explore other versions of Rumplestiltskin and to compare and contrast them to her version.

Students in third through fifth grades laughed a lot as Donna Washington shared four types of trouble, a tale about Brer Oppossum and Brer Snake, a story about a one-eyed ghost, and how tongue twisters are a great way to stretch our speaking muscles to help us speak more loudly and clearly. Don't be surprised if you are challenged to a tongue twister competition from your Tiger sometime soon.

Fun Fact- Ms. Bethea, one of our wonderful Instructional Assistants, bought the book, "A Big Spooky House," from Donna Washington in 2011. Ms. Bethea's son asked her to read it to him during every thunderstorm while he was growing up. Ms. Washington gladly signed her book for a second time.
