Today our Lincoln Heights Tigers showed off their amazing audience skills for our Incredible Storyteller, Ms. Donna Washington. Based in Durham, she travels around the world sharing her gift for storytelling.
For students in grades Kindergarten through Second, she shared the story of Rumplestiltskin and the importance of telling the truth. She challenged students to explore other versions of Rumplestiltskin and to compare and contrast them to her version.
Students in third through fifth grades laughed a lot as Donna Washington shared four types of trouble, a tale about Brer Oppossum and Brer Snake, a story about a one-eyed ghost, and how tongue twisters are a great way to stretch our speaking muscles to help us speak more loudly and clearly. Don't be surprised if you are challenged to a tongue twister competition from your Tiger sometime soon.
Fun Fact- Ms. Bethea, one of our wonderful Instructional Assistants, bought the book, "A Big Spooky House," from Donna Washington in 2011. Ms. Bethea's son asked her to read it to him during every thunderstorm while he was growing up. Ms. Washington gladly signed her book for a second time.
