You want to try not to be transitioning into the RVH while the opposing team is making a play with the puck, whether it be shooting or passing.
You either want to be in it early so you can react or push out of it, or you want to just hold your feet so you can do the same thing.
When you get caught in the middle is usually when bad things happen.

Many rinks will take their ice out over the summer, and for some, that’s the only sheet of ice in town.
The good news is, there are still plenty of things you can be doing every day to get better, and when you get back on the ice eventually, you will notice improvement!!

A ton of hard work put in both on and off the ice.

A couple of crazy robberies on the same drill. Even with amazing saves like these, there is still something to learn.
Notice on the first save how he gets his skate blade to the inside of the post and gets flatter in his RVH. This allows him to push across on the pass.
In the second clip, notice how his skate blade gets to the front of the post and he isn’t able to push across. Instead, his only choice is to reach and make a ridiculous save.
One more thing to notice in these clips is how when there is a wide open net, often times shooters will hit the middle of the net because they are nervous about missing, or think they have an easy goal.
Tristan showed them there was nothing easy about scoring on either of these opportunities. 😎

It’s better to gain depth and be able to flow backwards with a shooter rather than starting back in the net and flowing out towards them as they’re shooting.
If you are flowing towards them in this situation, they’ll most likely have a wide open net on any rebound or if they make a move to go around you.

Try to get your skate blade to the inside of the post in the RVH. If your skate blade ends up on the front of the post, you can’t use the post to push to the middle. If you try to, you will end up slipping off the front of the post, like Vasy does in this clip.
