Requirements for the Major in Psychology:

hrs. PSY 315 Psychology of Personality 3 hrs. PSY 390 Abnormal Psychology 3 hrs. List 2:
PSY 290 Biological Psychology 3 hrs. PSY 320 Memory and Cognition 3 hrs. PSY 370 Sensation and Perception 3 hrs. Two of the Following Laboratories:

PSY 311 Social Psychology Laboratory 1 hr. PSY 313 Developmental Laboratory 1 hr. PSY 316 Personality Laboratory 1 hr. PSY 321 Memory and Cognition Laboratory 1 hr. PSY 371 Sensation and Perception Laboratory 1 hr. A Senior Capstone:

PSY 422 Senior Seminar or both: 3 hrs. PSY 430 Pre-Thesis and 3 hrs. PSY 431 Senior Thesis 3 hrs. Psychology electives 9 hrs. Total Hours: 38-41 hrs. Both PSY 112 and PSY 113 must be completed before a student will be permitted to declare a major in psychology. Majors are strongly urged to take a biology course, either BIO 108 or BIO 114/115, and MAT 114 (Elementary Statistics) to complete general education requirements. No more than six credit hours of PSY 398 Independent Study may be counted towards meeting major requirements and only three credit hours from 200 level electives may be counted toward the major. Majors must earn a grade of C or better in all psychology courses needed to satisfy major requirements. PSY 422 or PSY 431 must be taken while enrolled at Westminster. Congratulations to these amazing students who are graduating with honors in Psychology this year! To achieve this honor, they successfully completed a senior thesis, presented their work at a conference, were members of the Psi Chi honor society, and achieved high GPAs in psychology courses. This fall, Kaitlyn will attend the Ph.D. Program in developmental psychology at West Virginia University. Emelia will attend the master’s program in school counseling at the University of Missouri-Columbia.

Congratulations to the amazing students who traveled to Franklin IN to present their research at the Mid-America Undergraduate Psychology Research Conference! 🎉

🧠 Bella Shelden & Joseph Otero presented their lab project titled “Human vs. AI Support: Attachment Style, Belongingness, and Emotional Effects of Chatbot.”

📊 Kaitlyn Halamicek presented her senior thesis titled “Emotionally Regulated Leaders: Outcomes in the Workplace.”

🤝 Emelia Hilse presented her senior thesis titled “Gender Stereotypes About Personality: The Role of Stereotypes in Peer Mentor Selection.”

This past week, two of our psychology seniors, Amanda Rehmert and Taylor O’Gorman, attended the annual Winter Symposium! ❄️ Every year, students travel to Colorado Springs for this educational event to hear from experts on the topics of of addictive disorders, behavioral health, and metal health. 🧠

Our first POTM for the 2025-2026 school year, for the month of September, is Braedon Cairer!

In September, Cairer appeared in eight games, racking up 9 points with 8 assists and 1 goal, helping lead the Blue Jays to a solid 5-3-1 record to open the season. He leads SLIAC in assists and ranks sixth in total points. Nationally, he stands 4th in NCAA Division III in both total assists and assists per game.
From making clutch plays to excelling in the classroom, Braedon’s hard work and dedication continue to shine.
