🗣️ IN CONVERSATION is a live series that connects image makers, scholars, and the community for bold, engaging exchanges on art, culture, and the ideas shaping our present moment.

📸 ABOUT SOO KIM 
Soo Kim is a photo-based artist whose work has been exhibited at institutions including the Getty Center, the Gwangju Biennale, the Pasadena Museum of California Art, the Orange County Museum of Art, and the Seoul Museum of Art. Her work is held in the collections of the J. Paul Getty Museum, The Broad Foundation, LACMA, and the Albright-Knox Art Gallery, among others. She received her MFA from CalArts and currently serves as Professor and Program Director of Photography at Otis College of Art and Design, where she also leads the Critic-in-Residence program. 
 
🎤 ABOUT JOHN RUBELI 
For the past three decades, John Rubeli has been a collector of works by emerging artists and has supported them by serving on the boards of many of Los Angeles’ museums and non-profits, including the Hammer Museum, LAXART (now The Brick), REDCAT and LAND.  He has been a patron of numerous exhibitions at those institutions as well as at MOCA, LACMA, SFMOMA and the Whitney. John is a longtime music executive and was one of the original organizers of the Lollapalooza Festival.  He was Vice President of A&R at Atlantic Records, co-founder of Chop Shop Records and currently has his own independent label Grey Market Records.

💐 Soo Kim will discuss the evolution of her practice, offering insight into her process and conceptual approach, followed by a walkthrough of her current exhibition (“Charlie sings in the quietest voice”) for a closer look at the work on view.
