Undocumented Youth in Education will be taught by Dr. Julian Jeffries on the upcoming Spring 2022 semester! (WED 4
pm - 6:45 pm).

The course will elaborate on describes the literacy and educational experiences of undocumented youth of all ethnicities and national backgrounds in the United States between pre-K and college. We will explore literacy instruction for and about undocumented youth and educational policies regarding their rights and access to educational institutions education. Through readings, multimedia, class discussions, invited guests and writing assignments, students will reflect on, think critically about and investigate the way undocumented youth use non-traditional literacy practices to navigate their undocumented status.

~This summer Dr. Obando, Stephanie Rivera, Chicano/a Studies Major, and Krys Orenday, Psychology Major + Chicana/o Studies Minor will be working on their SUReA awarded oral history project “Archives of Mortality: A Multi-Generational Oral History of Chicanx and Latinx Mortality during the COVID-19 Pandemic in Southern California and Houston, Texas.”

We are excited to announce that Dr. Alvarez’s co-edited book Transmovimientos will be available in June!
