21st Century Titans: Zia Salim
“Geography flies under the radar because people don’t know that it exists, or they think that it just involves memorizing place names. But geography is actually a ridiculously broad discipline. Our faculty study topics as varied as national parks, urban sustainability, habitat loss, human dimensions of climate change, migration, global cuisines, and ghost towns—just to name a few. I was a student in the department where I now teach, so I have firsthand experience of Geography’s feeling of community and the impactful teaching and mentorship, and I’m excited to work with the next generation of Titan geographers. I’m passionate about geography and I’m incredibly proud of our department’s teaching and research. We’re preparing geographically-literate citizens who can understand and solve environmental challenges and societal problems.”
Zia Salim, Ph.D., assistant professor of geography, CSUF alumnus. Research interests: urban and social geography, including urban sustainability, affordable housing, homelessness, migration, public art, and nonprofits.
