Need something for Tuesday after the holiday. Check the website out!
Dynamic PE ASAP The most credible, research-backed source for PE lesson plans, now in a time-saving, adaptable format!
Good evening fellow PE teachers. I teach at the middle school level, 7th and 8th graders. We grade on a 20 min run(I get it many people disagree on grading timed runs, for those of you who do grade a 20 min run). As far a grading scale I am curious how many laps would you give an A,B,C,D and F for?
Before commenting please consider(This isn’t a final grade it is a weekly assessment. Overall the run grade is only 10% of their overall grade. We run once a week. I appreciate of all your opinions on whether or not we should grade on number of laps however I am not interested in your opinion on “best practices” just grading. Our students do very well on the fitness gram, 95% of our students get a “C” or better (average) on a bell curve. Students with asthma, ape or other health related disabilities get modifications at our school. Lastly your not going to change our departments mind on grading for laps. I am only asking about those who grade laps like us.
Some math for you to consider:
20 min run
10 laps in 20 min= 8.00 min mile pace
9 laps in 20 min = 8.52 min mile pace
8 laps in 20 min = 9.20 min mile pace
7 laps in 20 min= 10.04 min mile pace
6 laps in 20 min= 12.48 min mile pace
5 laps in 20 min= 16.00 min mile pace
4 laps in 20 min= 20 min mile pace
Departments current standard
4-F= 5 min lap or 20 min mile
5-C= 4 min lap or 16 min mile
6-B= 3.20 min lap or 12.48 min mile
7-A- = 2.51 min lap or 10.04 min mile
8-A+= 2.30 min lap or 9.20 min mile
Thank you in advanced

Hey CMSPEW family! Look at what I bought! This is the headset that the presenters were using during the workshop!
I can't wait to try it out.
Take a look at what you can use from the workshop in the first couple of weeks of school to get your year started off the right way.

I think we could all benefit from this device.
May be adding some these to my Project Adventure unit.
