Early mornings, cold weather, snowy conditions, endless miles…nothing scares away our transportation department. They are the reason our precious cargo (students) get to and from school, sports, and activities. We are so thankful for them and recognize the mental toughness it takes to do this job day after day in Michigan weather. The Be Nice team decided to devote our Act of Kindness to them this month. We hope these goodies were a small token of appreciation and self care.

✨MAGICAL MONDAY✨ Make sure to get your outfits together for our Be Nice spirit week. We’re starting off with Disney characters. Wednesday YOU get to pick what “wing” you want to dress like. The one with the most participation will win a prize 🎉

Today, our Be Nice Ambassador elves reminded us that kindness matters 💚🎄. Every student walked in to a positive message and a candy cane at their locker. While the holidays are meant to be joyful, we know they can also bring grief, loneliness, stress, and exhaustion, especially during Michigan winters. A small act of kindness can go a long way. The Be Nice team challenges everyone to pass it on this Christmas break. Whether it be a smile, kind gesture, thank you, or a small message, it could truly make someone's holiday.

On this Thanksgiving Eve, we are SO thankful for our lunch staff and wonderful custodian Ms. Chrissy! Our act of kindness for November was gifting them a fun survival kit to show our gratitude for all they do for our building. We wish you all a Happy Thanksgiving. The Fruitport Trojan Travelers reached out to us looking for some help, they would love to challenge our students to go out of their comfort zone and explore NYC!

We were able to take 10 students to the Be Nice. Symposium today. We learned from and collaborated with other schools across the West side of Michigan and had some good take aways. We can’t wait to bring some of the ideas talked about today back to our school community to help stomp out the stigma of mental health.

Our middle school and high school students got to hear an awesome message of hope through the use of magic from the great Anthony Grupido today! From card tricks, escaping the “chains” of mental health, to even having Anthony use a math equation to identify the phone number of two of our students moms. (Our math teachers are going to have lots of fun trying to explain how that one works)
We thank Anthony for sharing his message of mental health, having hope, but most importantly reminding all of us we will never be too old for magic. Be sure to drop those student selfies below and give Anthony a follow!

Dear FMS and FHS Families,

The FHS Be Nice. student ambassadors are excited to bring Anthony Grupido and his “Message of Hope” presentation to Fruitport High School on Thursday, November 13, 2025. Student ambassadors who attended the Be Nice. Mental Health Symposium last fall, where Anthony served as the keynote speaker, were deeply moved by his story and wanted to share his message with the rest of the student body.

Anthony is a Michigan-based magician and motivational speaker who has performed for audiences across the globe. Known for his world-class magic, mentalism, and engaging humor, Anthony blends entertainment with meaningful conversation about kindness, inclusion, and mental health. His presentations highlight the healthy and unhealthy ways people cope with challenges, emphasizing how perspective and connection can make a difference.

Some key takeaways from Anthony’s “Message of Hope” include:

- Feeling lost or out of control at times is part of the human experience.

- The way we respond to an event is more important than the event itself.

- Anxiety, depression, and stress are not unique and no one is alone in experiencing them.

- School and community resources are available and should be known about.

- We all have tools and support around us to accomplish the impossible.

PLEASE NOTE: Anthony’s presentation may include brief references to sensitive topics such as self-harm and su***de in the context of his story and his message about recovery and hope. We recognize that these topics can be difficult for some students. If you prefer your child not to attend, we will provide an alternate supervised space where students can work independently during the assembly.

We are proud to support our student ambassadors in continuing to destigmatize mental health and promote a culture of kindness, inclusion, and hope at Fruitport Community Schools.
