🎃📚 INTRODUCING A BRAND-NEW CLC EVENT! 📚🎃
🎉 FREE EVENT — OPEN TO THE COMMUNITY! 🎉

The Nowaczyk Family Children’s Literature Centre is excited to introduce Booktacular Tales, an exciting new addition to our annual series of children’s literacy events—and our first-ever Halloween event!

📅 Sunday, October 25
⏰ 4:00–7:00 PM
📍 Frostburg State University-Pullen Hall Parking Lot/Education Health Sciences Center
🍬 Presented in partnership with FSU’s Trunk or Treat!

After many magical years, the CLC has concluded its Harry Potter Book Night tradition. Harry Potter Book Night will not return in 2027 or in future years. Instead, this October we’re excited to begin a brand-new annual tradition—BOOKTACULAR TALES! 🎃📚

🐮 Our first Booktacular Tales will feature a read-aloud of Click, Clack, Boo! by Doreen Cronin and Betsy Lewin, along with an entire evening of Halloween fun:

🎃 Giant inflatable maze with hidden prizes
🎟️ Prize Loot Machine
📸 Lots of fun Halloween photo opportunities
👻 Spooky Discovery Room
🎨 Crafts
⭐ Games
🍪 FREE snacks
🎁 Multiple prizes and giveaways throughout the event
📚 EVERY CHILD GOES HOME WITH A FREE BOOK!
🍬🎃 DOUBLE THE HALLOWEEN FUN AT FSU!

We’re especially excited to present Booktacular Tales in partnership with FSU’s Trunk or Treat! We are grateful to the FSU students, organizations, and their director who coordinate Trunk or Treat each year and have welcomed the CLC as part of this special campus tradition.
Families can enjoy Booktacular Tales AND FSU’s Trunk or Treat during one fun-filled evening on campus!

Costumes are encouraged! Bring the whole family and join us as we launch what we hope will become a favorite new CLC annual tradition. 🎃🧡
We can’t wait to celebrate this new chapter with our community!

🇺🇸📚 REMEMBERING SEPTEMBER 11

On the 25th anniversary of September 11, 2001, the Nowaczyk Family Children’s Literature Centre pauses to remember the lives lost, the families forever changed, and all those whose lives were touched by that day.

We are reminded of the important role that books and stories can play in helping children understand difficult moments in our world.

📖 Book: September 12th: We Knew Everything Would Be All Right

This remarkable book was written and illustrated by first-grade students following the events of September 11, 2001. Through the eyes of children, it shares a simple but powerful message: the next morning came. Children returned to school. Their teachers were there. Families were together. The sun rose. And little by little, children began to understand that everything would be all right.

Twenty-five years later, their words are an important reminder of the power of caring adults, classrooms, communities—and literature—to help children process difficult events and find hope.

❤️ Extension Activity:
After reading the book together, invite children to draw or write about the people, places, and everyday things that help them feel safe, cared for, and hopeful. Younger children might create a picture, while older children could write a short reflection about how families, schools, and communities help one another during difficult times.

At the CLC, we believe children’s literature can do more than teach children to read. Stories can provide comfort, create opportunities for meaningful conversations, preserve memories, and help children make sense of the world around them.
