Way to go Hailie!

Congratulations to Hailie Toro for being selected for the Civil Citizen Communicator award this Spring 2024! Hailie is a Social Work major with minors in Sociology and Women's Studies who advocates for women's rights and liberation, LGBTQ+ rights, and mental and physical health accessibility through various efforts, including their role as a digital media creator of the W.O.M.E.N. group on campus. Hailie's name will be etched on the plaque accompanying the Civility Cup, and they will receive a cash award. One of our students at Frostburg is doing a diaper drive for Women's Health Center of Maryland from now until October 20. Local folks, I can pick up/meet you somewhere if you’re interested in donating, and anyone can also use the Venmo below to donate cash that will be used to purchase more diapers.

Two of our graduating minors, Amber and Mae, attended the 2023 Appalachian Studies Association Conference with dr. Angie Luvara this weekend and were able to have breakfast with Callie Pruett, co-host of the podcast Appodlachia, and Beth Howard, the Appalachia Organizing Director for the organization Standing Up for Racial Justice!

Get rested and rejuvenated, because when we return, Jalessah Jackson is coming to talk about reproductive justice in the wake of the Dobbs decision that has rolled back reproductive rights for so many people across the country. We are so excited to learn from them!

Thanks so much to the nearly 60 people that came out to hear Kim Kelly talk about untold labor histories last night! And thanks to our two minors, Meghan and Lydia, who helped facilitate, as well as our many campus partners who have helped make this happen.

A spokesperson for the U.S. Women's National Team says they'll appeal after a judge dismissed the claim that they're paid less than the men's team. Other claims in the lawsuit will go to trial.
