Resident Spotlight featuring Dr. Carpio (PGY-2). Love that our residents feel comfortable enough to share their goofy side!

1. What do you enjoy doing outside of medicine, and how do you make time for it during residency?

"I really love spending time with my wife (recently married as of almost 5 months!), watching or playing sci-fi stuff, and just being an all-around goofball."

2. What is one local restaurant, activity, or hidden gem you would recommend to an incoming resident?

"Bonnie Blue Southern Market ROCKS. Great BBQ. Great time."

3. What is your go-to-post call recovery routine -- and is it actually restorative, or mostly just coffee and an ambitious plan to do laundry?

"My go-to-post-call routine is getting home, putting on comfy clothes, making myself an iced coffee, and lounging on the couch until I feel like I need to get up or fall asleep. Not sure if it's restorative, but it's what I enjoy doing!"

Featuring Dr. Kelliher-Sanders (PGY-3).

1. What do you enjoy doing outside of medicine, and how do you make time for it during residency?

I love working out, getting outside, and spending quality time with my family and friends. My husband and I make an active effort to do something with family or friends most weekends. And when it comes to finding time for working out, my home gym makes all the difference.

2. What is one local restaurant, activity, or hidden gem you would recommend to an incoming resident?

You would think this would be easy to answer since I'm from here, but it's actually really hard. There are so many places I would recommend. The one place we always take people who are visiting us from out of town is Sclafani's in Kernstown.

3. What is your go-to-post-call recovery routine-- and is it actually restorative, or mostly just coffee and an ambitious plan to do laundry?

Before I had a baby, my go to post-call recovery was a nap and a run. TBD on the post-call recovery now that she's here. I imagine it will involve cuddling my baby and catching up on missed time with her.

Dr. Dunlap:
1. "I love cooking homemade meals for myself and my wife, thankfully eating is something we all have to do daily so I have some time blocked off."

2. "A great night out in Wi******er for me would be dinner at Sabai Thai or Chopstick Cafe, then 1+ drink(s) at 50/50 taphouse, then a movie at the Alamo."

3. "A post call day looks like coming home and laying on the floor with my dogs, determining if I can do chores or if I am going back to sleep. Sometimes I lay in the grass in the backyard, too."

Dr. Adams:
1. "I really enjoy spending time with my kids, golfing, and watching sports! I make good use of my post call days to golf, and our schedule usually allows me to be home every night for dinner."

2. "Vault and Cellar is my favorite restaurant in the area! It's my wife and I's go to date night spot."

3. "If it is a calm night of call, I basically just have a day off and try to give my wife reprieve from solo parenting 3 crazy children (who we love immensely). I also try to go golfing OR my personal favorite frivolous task is cleaning the house as if the kids won't wreck it by the end of the day."

The residents enjoyed lunch and a cavern tour as part of their wellness event yesterday. No bats were seen but good times were had.
