Independence High School opened in the fall of 2014 and is part of the Frisco Independent School District located approximately 25 miles North of Dallas, Texas in the city of Frisco. Instrumental music begins in the sixth grade at middle schools across the district in homogeneous class settings. Full band classes are structured for seventh and eighth graders where individual skills are emphasized

and ensemble skills are developed and refined. At the high school level, all students participate in the Knight Marching Band during the majority of the fall semester. The Marching Band includes approximately 170 students serving as musical entertainment and support for the varsity football team at all games. In addition, the band prepares and performs a musical and visual program for invitational marching competitions across North Texas, in addition to UIL contests. The Independence Concert Ensembles are the foundation of the band organization. During the spring semester, students are assigned to one of three concert ensembles based on ability level: The Wind Ensemble, Symphonic Band, and Concert band prepare several concerts throughout the concert season. The Independence Band Department also offers Percussion Ensemble, Jazz Band, and Color Guard classes as well. In addition, many of the students participate in individual events, such as the TMEA All-State process and the UIL Solo & Ensemble Competition. As full ensembles, the bands compete at Texas University Interscholastic League (UIL) Concert and Sight-Reading Contests as well as other various concert competitions during the spring semester. The Independence Band Program is consistently supported by the incredible network of parents who comprise the band booster organization. These individuals perform extraordinary efforts to provide financial, physical and moral support to the wonderful students in the band program at Independence High School.

This past week, the IHS winterguard participated in TWO competitions! One in person and one virtual. They were selected as a finalist for the WGI virtual competition, and received third place at the NTCA competition at Prosper High School. Great job guard! Go Knights!

This season, our winterguard is using a beautiful, watercolor mountain tarp that was actually designed and drawn by one of our guard students, Vidya Yalamanchili! Last year as a freshman, Vidya was a recipient of a Gold Seal at the 2023 VASE State competition representing IHS! Thank you Vidya for showcasing your talent with this very impressive design!
