Independence HS Band - Frisco, TX

First performance of the season! Starting off strong with the IHS percussion. Both the percussion and the colorguard have been working hard this week! Go Knights!💜

This past week, the IHS winterguard participated in TWO competitions! One in person and one virtual. They were selected as a finalist for the WGI virtual competition, and received third place at the NTCA competition at Prosper High School. Great job guard! Go Knights!

This season, our winterguard is using a beautiful, watercolor mountain tarp that was actually designed and drawn by one of our guard students, Vidya Yalamanchili! Last year as a freshman, Vidya was a recipient of a Gold Seal at the 2023 VASE State competition representing IHS! Thank you Vidya for showcasing your talent with this very impressive design!

The IHS Band had an amazing day at the Melissa Marching Contest! The band placed 3rd overall, and the colorguard won Outstanding Colorguard in prelims. Thank you to all the parents who helped out, or came to support us! Go Knights!

We had some visitors today at colorguard camp! Thank you to the Denison High School Band Leadership team for coming out and learning some exercises with us. Good luck on your upcoming season!

Please welcome our newest staff member- our assistant percussion director, Mr. Jesse Vela!

Jesse is a recent graduate of A&M Commerce where he studied percussion with Dr. Brian Zator. He will work alongside Mr. Baird to teach percussion at Independence HS and Nelson MS. We are so excited to welcome him to the Independence Band Family!

Our colorguard Co-captain, Lasya Devalaraju, spent this past week at the UTA Band and Leadership camp! She did both the colorguard and leadership track and did an amazing job!

Special shout-out to one of our members on our leadership team, Adithi Anandarao, for spending a week at Howard Payne University for their leadership band camp! She was placed in the advanced group and learned a lot. Great job Adithi!

Congratulations to the Independence High School Wind Ensemble for placing Top 4 in TMEA Region Honor Band Recordings! They have now advanced to Area. We wish you luck at your hearing on June 21st-22nd!

Good luck to recent IHS graduate, Kat McNamara, as she heads off to spend the summer with Spirit of Atlanta Drum and Bugle Corps today! We can’t wait to cheer you on!
