Meet Sensei Constance An, a 5th degree black belt in traditional Karate in the Shorin Ryu and Shudokan systems.

Sensei Constance began her martial arts training at the Okinawan Karate Club and is an active practitioner of the arts, teaching classes consistently for over 24 years. Throughout the years, she has taught numerous self defense seminars at large corporate and women’s groups, such as FearLess Dallas and a women’s shelter. Additionally, she has taught at the National Women Martial Arts Federation (NWMAF) and the Association of Women in Martial Arts Institute (AWMAI).

Her study in the arts originates from the late Grand Master Eizo Shimabukuro, 10th dan black belt in the Shorin Ryu system. Constance’s black belt was awarded to her by Hanshi Ilene Smoger, 7th dan black belt from the Grand Master lineage. Hanshi Ilene Smoger was also awarded the Women’s Martial Arts Hall of Fame Award by NWMAF.
